"I would ask your right here and now for all the world to hear if not for this being your mother and father's day," Kell promised her. "You told me to ask you when you turned eighteen, in front of everyone. So unless you fall to my charms before then, I'll do it."

"You might be a hopeless romantic yet, Kell." Kate said with a grin as she leaned her head in to rest it against his chest. "And I love you all the more for it."

"And I love you for putting up with it," Kell murmured, his arms wrapping around her just a little tighter.

By the time everyone began to split off, giving their last well-wishes to Brogan and Julia before heading home, Kell had wandered out into the garden with Kate. There was little he valued so much as his time with Kate without the prying eyes of her family. He wanted nothing more than to enjoy the peace with her.

"I've heard stories of tribal members being able to read what is written in the stars." Kate said as she sat in the garden with Kell, looking up at the night sky full of stars. "I sometimes wonder what is written for me."

"Maybe you should ask Suara," Kell offered quietly as he looked up at the starry blackness. Having spent his whole life in the shadows, he had never quite taken the chance to sit and enjoy the night sky for granted. "If anyone can, it's probably her."

Kell's gaze turned to Kate after a long moment, and he murmured, "My grandfather told me his mother could read the skies... that she could predict just about anything."

"I like to believe that there is still a little bit of magic left out there in the world." Kate said with a smile on her lips as she turned her green eyes towards Kell. "Reading the stars, falling in love, having a nice little life with people you enjoy. I would say all of that falls under that category."

"Magic? I suppose it is... It doesn't happen every day." Kell drew Kate closer against his side, nuzzling against her cheek. "And I'm still not sure how I got lucky enough for it to happen to me... It seems to run in your family, though."

"Growing up with Ma and Da as role models showed each of us how much we needed to find the one person who completed us. Ciaran is finally happy with Justin after losing Lir and Annie fought so hard for David. I guess it's my turn now." Kate said with a grin as Kell nuzzled against her cheek.

"Thankfully your Da isn't making us fight too hard," Kell thought aloud with a chuckle. He was letting a bit of his wolf side come out, nuzzling against Kate and holding her tight and letting himself enjoy just the simple contact.

"Just wait. We haven't walked down the aisle yet. He still has plenty of time to reconsider." Kate chuckled as her wolf held her tightly and nuzzled against her, marking her with his scent so that any other were would know that she belonged to him.

"True. But do you really think he'd fight that hard? After all, you and I have been partners in crime from only hours after we met." He let his head rest on her shoulder with a soft laugh. "I still haven't forgiven you for that, either. My back hurt for weeks."

"I had to protect my Ma and Da. I'd do it again in a heartbeat." Kate said softly as he mentioned the first time that they had met.

"You think I'll ever blame you for that?" He asked with a chuckle. "I would've done the same for my grandfather and sister."

"And me, I hope." Kate said with a smile at Kell as he promised that he would have done the same if it had been his family.

"Well that was before I knew I loved you. Now... I think I proved what lengths I'll go to for you in between being an idiot during the war," he laughed.

"And I would do the same for you. I would probably follow you anywhere in the world." Kate confessed as Kell sweet talked her. "But only if we always make time to come back home. I don't know what I would do without Inverness in my life."

"I don't either. It's more of a home than I've ever had before in my life," Kell murmured with a nod. "And your family means just as much to me as Mary and my mother did. Your Da is like the father I never got to have. Your Ma is the mother my own was afraid to be." He smiled down at her once more. "And your siblings... they're bearable," he chuckled.

"They're holy terrors." Kate said with a grin as she leaned in and kissed Kell gently. "But you fit right in with them. I don't think that I could find anyone else better to fit into my life than you, Khelt. You make me want to be a better person."

"And you made me a better person. I'm not sure I can ever repay that," he murmured before returning her kiss with all the adoration he could show her. "I love you, my dear Lady. And you ought to know I'm absolutely prepared to walk into anything with you, even the fire of the High Court."

"I don't think I could do any of this without a good Lord Protector at my side." Kate said with a smile as she pressed her forehead against his own. "It will be hard. Perhaps harder than we think, but we can do this, Kell. We've had the best teacher a ruler can have with my Ma and Da. We will make Scotland a power to be reckoned with."

"And hopefully an example for future generations. Brian and Gale gave us a good foothold, having invested so much in making a healthy economy and allying with the Irish and English High Courts and the better half of the clan kings." Kell closed his eyes as she laid her forehead against his own. "I hope you know that I intend to be your Spymaster as well, so I can sneak around and support you without your knowledge."

"Spymaster? What if I had other ideas?" Kate teased, chuckling at the look in his amber eyes. "I wont tell you no, Kell, but I demand that you be as safe as possible."

"I'll try to keep away from sneaking around back alleys and gang hideouts. I'm more concerned with being your personal bodyguard. There aren't many people in this world I'd ever trust with that duty. And though I'm not the jealous type, I might not want to give up the honor either, or the chance to keep close to you." He laid his head against her shoulder. "Just promise me you won't make my life too difficult by being reckless. Your safety is my utmost concern, and not just for the sake of my own hide under your father's sword."

"I'll make no such promises." Kate murmured softly as his head rested against her shoulder. "If I see opportunity, I will take it. It's just something you will have to deal with."

"Then you'll have to deal with me chasing you down and exercising my rights as Lord Protector," he said with a smirk and met her eyes. Brogan had told her about it previously, that Kell could overrule her if her health or safety were at risk and he was backed up by her advisers or lords. She could do the same to him as well.
