"Then insist that he take you out to the sparring ring and give you the punishment that you think that you deserve." Kate said, exasperated by Qira as he sought someone to tell him that he had been wrong in this entire situation.

"You're far too forgiving," Qira murmured. "But I have no choice but to let it go, with all of you refusing to blame me."

“I could be more forgiving and let the lord go. Then you would think that I truly had lost my mind.” Kate said as Qira muttered about them being too forgiving for a failed guard.

"I would. But I don't know if Kell would obey that order." He rose then. "Do you need anything?"

"Just company so that I don't go crazy while I sit here and do nothing." Kate said with a long sigh, looking over at Qira as if he could really help her through this situation. "I'm not a patient person if you haven't noticed yet."

"I have remained politely quiet about it. I will be right back." He nodded to her before going to fetch a few things. He returned with a deck of slightly-tattered cards with odd designs and Arabic on them, but they were similar enough to cards Kate knew. He also brought some of the journals from Vincenzo and Durban Kate had taken with her, to be traded out the next time she returned home, and a few books and parchment and random things to keep her mind busy. He also brought a large unmarked clay jug with a cork, and two glasses.

"Alcohol will not go well with your medicine, but try this." He poured a glass of deep translucent crimson liquid for her. "It is like a child's version of Viking Blod mead."

Kate was a little confused as he came back with all kinds of things to occupy her mind. Cards, her grandfather and uncle's traveling books, parchment and pen, and other games. She watched as he poured her something into a glass, insisting that she could enjoy it with the medication currently in her system.

"You don't have to do any of this, Qira. I know you have more important things to do during your day than babysit me." Kate said softly.

"My job is to keep an eye out for you," he told her quietly as he poured a glass for himself and sat back. "Your well-being is my priority. And I would like to think you and Kell are my friends. So if you insist I'm not about to be sent away, I may as well keep you occupied."

“Kell has a crush on you.” Kate told him, knowing she was probably sharing too much. “He admitted it to me on our holiday.”

"Hm," Qira grunted, almost a chuckle as he smiled lightly. "Well, you can rest assured that I feel similarly, but I will stay far from your husband."

“You don’t have to stay too far away. In fact, I think he might enjoy the attention.” Kate said as she took a sip of he drink that he had poured for her.

Qira quirked a brow at her. "You confuse me. Both of you. Here I thought you were fairly possessive."

“We both are. He swears he won’t ever get bored with me but I can’t shake the feeling that he will. In fact, we had an argument while on holiday over that fact.” Kate said as Qira seemed thoroughly confused.

"I don't see how anyone would get bored of you. You're into new trouble every day," he murmured. "You doubt yourself far too much, though. You are not disposable. Kell is always thinking of you in one way or another."

“I’m very young and inexperienced in a lot of ways. I never saw myself as a wife. In fact, I’m thankful that I don’t have to keep a house for him because I think I’d be completely useless.” Late said. “I’m afraid that one day he’ll look at all of this and decide that it isn’t worth his time.”

"Kell is not so fickle. He does not take chances on people he has any doubt about. Take it from someone who has known him since long before his first wife." Qira drank from his own glass. "He is one of the best men you will ever know, and one of the most honest. If he really has a problem, he will tell you. As much as he values secrecy, he values communication just as much. The only things he won't say aloud are those that might be dangerous for you."

“And he is a man who knows what he likes.” Kate said as she offered the panther the deck of cards. “And he likes you.”

"Does that bother you?" Qira asked quietly, glancing across at her while he took the cards and began shuffling.

"Why would that bother me?" Kate asked, looking up at Qira as she tilted her head in curiosity. "My oldest brother is a relationship with a lovely man. It doesn't bother me at all."

"I meant more that you knew your husband had at least minor feelings for someone else. I know you aren't one to care about two men being together."

“The both of you have told me time and again that he wants me more than anything. Even if he had feelings for other people, and he does, am I suppose to ignore everything you’ve told me so far?” Kate asked him. “If I can’t trust him, then what am I doing here?”

"Kell is all yours," Qira assured her softly. "The only point I am trying to make is that he knows what he wants, and he made a choice with confidence, and he will stick to it as long as you want him around. He is not a man to jeopardize his relationships with wandering. He may appreciate others, but that is as far as it will go unless you say otherwise. Loyalty is the core of his thought process. After spending so long among cutthroats and men only out for themselves, willing to kill for coin, he is not interested in being anything like them anymore."

Kate was quiet as he said that, knowing that he was probably right about Kell and his wants and needs. “Quit waxing poetic and deal the cards, panther.”

"I did not know simple fact was cause for poetry," he smiled lightly, dealing.out two hands of cards before setting the deck down.
