"You are still unsure of her," Qira commented as he paused at the door while she went to her desk.

"I didn't say a thing about her." Kate said as she took the seat behind her great desk. "Don't go putting words into my mouth."

"It was an observation," he murmured in his own language, "not an accusation." He gave her a nod before disappearing from sight, leaving her to her work but remaining somewhere nearby as ever.

Kate glanced up to watch him disappear into the ether, going back to his post as seamlessly as he had ever been. She let out a huff and glanced down at the papers that immediately needed her attention, knowing that her jealousy of Rissa would continue to be an issue. She wondered if she weren't the reason that Qira now had a smile on his face that hadn't been there before. It wasn't any of her business, but Kate suddenly felt betrayed by the panther. He had been swayed by a pretty face as well.

It was a few days later, come evening, that Rissa was alone in her personal office finishing up copying a new regulation decree for Warwick that, without a sound, a bottle of her favorite wine was placed beside her. With hadn't made a peep, his feet silent on the floor as he'd stepped in, though he hadn't meant to sneak up on her.

"I promised I would not forget about you," Qira murmured. He knew he'd developed quite a soft spot for Rissa in their time away, beyond just the physical side. And while he didn't necessarily allow himself to consider pursuing anything serious, he liked her company and he felt it only right to remind her of that.

"Are you attempting to be romantic?" Rissa asked as she cast a glance at the bottle of wine that he had placed on her desk, her hand pausing briefly as she finally looked up at him. "That means our queen must be in her lord protector's care. He came to thank me for all of the work that I had done while they were gone. I haven't heard a peep from her."

"I do not know romance," Qira admitted. "Only favors and kindness. Kate and Kell went to bed a while ago."

From his other hand, he placed one glass, keeping a second. "May I join?"

"Early to bed, early to rise." Rissa said as Qira produced two glasses and asked if he could join her. "Like I would really send you away after you brought me wine."

"It is polite to ask." He shrugged and pulled up and extra chair before pouring them both a glass. "Warwick is very glad to have you. He has said many times that you are exactly what he was looking for, for someone to take over when he is done."

"He's nearly done." Rissa commented, taking the glass from Qira as he poured it for her. "He wants the peace and quiet that comes with retirement. I think for the first time since he lost his wife, he's ready to take moments for himself."

"He has told you about her?" Qira asked with surprise. "He never talks about her except to family. I only know of Ashelin from Kate."

"He tells me a lot that he doesn't tell anyone else." Rissa said with a sly smile. "He has told me about his children as well. Cole and Valentina are the bright spots in his life. He mourns Ciaran still to this day, but he speaks of him with pride."

"He likes you quite a bit, then." Qira took a drink from his glass. "I understand he has not bothered to make many friends outside Marianne and a few others since he came here."

“Perhaps I’m just easy to talk to.” Rissa said as she took a sip of her wine. “Take you for example, telling me all about yourself without the least bit of bestitstion. I never thought that might be possible.”

"I told some, not all," Qira shrugged. "It was only fair, after what you told me about yourself."

"Is that a challenge to find out more information about you? I bet you that I could." Rissa said, teasing him with a smile on her lips. "Or I could drag it out of you with my wit."

"No one but Kell knows much, but you are welcome to try." Qira smiled lightly at that. "I am good at resisting torture of all types."

"You seem to be unable to resist my lips around your cock." Rissa said, raising an eyebrow as she watched his ears twitch. "Or was that just for that night?"

If Qira were capable of blushing, he would've turned completely red. Instead, his feline ears laid back slightly. "I was not trying to resist then," he murmured.

"Don't lie to me, panther. You can't resist." Rissa said with a laugh as she watched his ears fold backwards and his gaze grow sheepish.

"Maybe we will see what you can endure too," Qira rounded back, able to fight any embarrassment or bashfulness with a turnabout.

"Are you challenging me, panther?" Rissa asked him in an innocent tone, knowing that Qira could turn the tables on her in an instant if he wished.

"Against a former spy and assassin?" Rissa asked as he set his glass down and challenged her with that intense gaze of his. "Of course I'll accept that challenge."

"Good." After having developed a comfort with her over their time away, Qira had no qualms about pulling her chair away from her desk with her still in it, pulling off his belt with his free hand. With a deftness she'd become familiar with, he began to slip her clothes away, and once her torso was bare, he bound her hands behind the chair with his belt.
