Ghis (closed)

"That's what Kitty and I are here for, and your other children." Vincenzo kissed her forehead and brought her away toward her own room. "Your family will always hold you up when you can't stand alone."

"I can't leave her alone, Vincenzo. Not when she is still ill." Julia said, slightly panicked that he was taking her away from the nursery.

"She's not going to be alone. Valentina will be in soon. She's not in danger anymore." He nudged her further along. "If it'll make you feel better, I'll stay til she comes. But you need to get some rest and make sure Brogan does too."

Julia wanted to protest and tell him that he was wrong. Heather needed her Mama there with her to help her when she needed it.

"You'll get me if she wakes?" She murmured softly, the heartache still on her voice.

"Of course I will," Vincenzo promised her with a kiss pressed to her cheek. "But I'm hoping she'll sleep through the night. Now go on, cara mia."

Julia said nothing more as she opened the door to her rooms and slipped inside. Closing the door, she leaned back against the frame and looked at Brogan as he sat at the fire.

"I got kicked out of the nursery." She murmured softly. "Vincenzo's orders. Ashelin has her dog and Heather has her cat....and they were both slumbering when I left."

"Y'do need sleep love... Can' be too mad at Vincenzo fer lookin' after you," Brogan spoke, barely audible as if his voice had lost all power too along with everything else, like he'd been drained.

Julia leaned against the wall for a moment longer before she moved to her husband's side and sat in his lap, finding comfort against his warm chest.

"You need to take things easy, love." She said softly. "I'm not losing you too."

"Y'haven't lost anyone, love, an' you won't lose anyone," he whispered against her shoulder as he laid his head against it. "I'm no' leavin' those little girls, especially when one needs us now more'n ever..."

"I'm holding you to that promise, Brogan Ghis." Julie murmured as she let her eyes close and rest against her husband. "Because I need you now more than ever."

"Jus' let me figure out 'ow t'stand on my own two feet again, an' I'll be anythin' you need, love..." Brogan kissed her forehead and let himself relax finally, wrapping an arm around her

Julia let out a sigh as she slowly relaxed, able to find slumber in her husband's arms in front of the warm fire. It was deep, well needed after the stress that she's been through over the past few weeks.

In the morning, Julia would find herself in bed beside Brogan who seemed to be still in the middle of the least troubled sleep he'd had in weeks. There was no telling how late he'd sat up, but knowing him, it'd probably been hours after Julia dozed off.

Julia wrapped an arm around Brogan's chest, resting her head on his shoulder as she saw him restlessly twisting on the bed beside her. She knew that he was struggling with Heather's future, but they would get through everything in time. It would take a lot of tears, frustration, and fear on all of their parts, but they loved one another fiercely.

Eventually he fell still, but it was only because he was starting to wake up. He looked so restless and tired at the same time, like his body was exhausted while his mind just raced away the moment he opened his eyes. "Morning, love," he murmured, the usual warmth in his voice weak.

"You're staying in bed today." Julia said softly as she heard the weakness in his voice. "I mean it, Brogan. You need to rest before you do more damage to your heart. I'll go and check on the children in a few moments and then I'll come back to make sure that you stay put."

"But I need t'come see them," he muttered, sitting up. If there was anything he'd never back down from, it was making sure his children were alright in times of danger or sadness or sickness.

"I'll bring them both to you. Please, just rest." Julia begged him, knowing that he was stubborn enough to get out of bed and do some serious damage to himself. "Ashelin and Heather can have breakfast in here with us. Would that make you feel better?"

Brogan's tired gaze met Julia's, and he realized he was scaring her. He leaned back on the headboard and drew her in. "Sorry, love... I'm addin' more stress t'yer own plate bein' a stubborn fool."

"You're a concerned father, but there are ways to go about this." Julia said softly as he pulled her close to her side. "We can love our girls, but your health comes first. I can't do all of this without you."

"I promised you I wouldn' leave you all alone, Julia," he murmured before kissing her cheek. "I don' intend t'break tha' promise already."

"You push yourself when you're down and it frightens me." She said softly as he told her that he wasn't going anywhere any time soon. "I'll go get the girls."

She soon was out of bed, heading into the nursery to gather up Heather and Ashelin. Heather was up that morning already, clinging to Vincenzo as he rocked her. She was just waking up while Ashelin slumbered away.

"Did she have a good night?" Julia asked softly as she pressed a kiss against Heather's cheek.

"She slept straight through, no problems," Vincenzo assured her. "I just sent Val and Theo off to bed. Apparently Alex stayed up with them most of the night too."

"Poor little lad. He didn't have to stay up with the both of them." Julia said as she carefully lifted Ashelin from the crib and cuddled her dark haired beauty close. "I want to make sure that this doesn't effect Ash. Having a sister that is blind might do some harm to her as well."

"She might have to be a little more responsible, but she won't turn into Sam," Vincenzo assured her, knowing that was everyone's worry for Ashelin. "We just have to teach her that Heather needs an occasional guide."
