[COLOR = BLUE]People want a happy private life that doesn't interfere with their professional life. But it's a blend of the two that really works. That's tough to bring about. We typically work 8-12 hours per day, sleep 6-8 hours which leaves in the best case 10 hours with our families and in my case, less than 4 hours except for Sundays. You have to make up on that day for the remainder of the week...which doesn't mean watching Football, Hockey, etc. but communicating with your family. After 50-60 hours during the week communicating professionally, it's tough to maintain common interests other than your professional life on which to communicate. That's where the disparity lies. So, we take the easy way out and blame our private life on our partners instead of admitting our professional lives drain us emotionally, physically and intellectually, leaving us less than perfect partners.[/COLOR]

If we say we aren't affected by a person's physical appearance, we are lying...we all want to be surrounded by beauty. However, having said that, if we develop a real relationship with someone, the appearance seems to become secondary. My true relationships would not be affected (other than sexual which seems to demand some sort of physical attraction).

Open immorality does bother me. I don't believe it is a good role model for youth. Defining what is moral and what is immoral is where the problem arises. Our entire society is derived from the foundations of morality and this is what the Supreme Court faces daily in trying to maintain the intent of morality. Now, for the rest of the morality issue, what is kept personal is totally personal...not for the world to judge.

There is no perfect age...at least not up to this point in my life. Every age has it's advantages and disadvantages. I personally like my current place in life...knowledge and experience coupled with a high sex drive.

Alright, let's see here.

I think people put great energy into their professional lives for a number of reasons. Some of the ones that come to mind first are that progress in our professional lives is easy to measure, it provides tangible rewards, and we learn early on that what we become when we grow up is very important. We seem to be well programmed to reach for clearly defined goals. Professions make goals widely abundant while our private lives often do not lend themselves to goals.

In addition, ever since the sixties it has been at least somewhat fashionable to appear to be concerned about our private lives too. That's certainly one reason why self-help books of all kinds regularly take up high spots on the NY Times bestseller list.

The questions you raised this time, DLL, are nearly timeless. The struggle for balance between our ambitions and our private needs has been a part of the human condition since the beginning of the industrial revolution at least. The insincerity with which many claim to be devoted to their families despite years of workaholic behavior is abundant. How many times have you heard a political or business leader claim "I want to spend more time with my family" as the reason for an untimiely resignation?

Now, on to your questions about physical appearance. It matters little to me. I have said many times in threads here that the thing I love most about my beloved's body is that it is attached to her. I could not fully love someone who did not share that belief for the most part, so if something changed my appearance for the worse I would not expect it to change my life much.

The most disturbing thing I can imagine about immortality is that my knees are already giving me trouble. It's hard to imagine how sore they might be in a few centuries. Now, if I could have immortality in good physical health - ah, that's the genie's wish isn't it?

Small town or country. I spent over half of my life (abt. 22 years) in a huge metropolitan area with crime, ungodly traffic, etc. I kissed it all goodbye almost three years ago, and haven’t had any regrets to date.

ANSWER: It's not a mystery. Many people consider freedom to live life on their own terms to be a key to their personal happiness. With America running on debt published as Federal Reserve Notes, there's a lot of insecurity concerning money because your dollar today will be worth less tommorrow. (An 1900 nickle have same value as today's $1.10). That have impact on a lot of life like the cost of college education and care for elder parents. So people are more likely to put in a lot of time into their professional life early in hope of gaining freedom from rat race latter

ANSWER: I'm a artist. I'm always affected by beauty. But with me, I notice a woman's face before I noticed her body. When talking to a woman, I look for personality and intelligence. If she's dull, I don't care how pretty she is. This may be of interest to you that people are imprinted with ideal body type by their parent or favorite uncle or aunt. In my family, I was surronded by a lot of pretty Irish-Polish aunts so that impacted on what appearence appeals to me.

ANSWER: Dosen't matter. I'm already deaf and this hasn't made me any less colorful. In fact I found my handicap to be advantage in that I can turn off my mother's nagging and sleep soundly while garbage truck roar by at 3am in the morning.

Are you exclusive with someone here at lit ..or just want to experience everyone that you find interesting?? I'm not exclusive with anyone here but I do find several people very interesting.

How would you react if you were to learn that your mate had had a lover of the same sex before you knew each other? I'd be surprised but it really wouldn't make any difference in how I felt about him.

If at birth you could select the profession your child would eventually pursue, would yo do so? This is a hard one for me to answer. I'm going to say no, I wouldn't. I'm sure it would be better for them to choose for themselves.

I'd give away the $20,000,000. There is a whole lot of people that could be helped with that much $$ and a whole lot of good could be done.

I'd go through with it, definitely.

I'd have the Supreme Court Justices to dinner(I'm sure dinner conversation would be interesting),Sarah Fergueson(Duchess of York) as my close friend(She just seems like fun), and John Mayer as my lover (Oh, the things I want to do to that man!).
