I am a new member and have been reading about submitting stories. I am confused about having a story copyrighted. Rule #9 under Submission Guidelines states

9. Manuscripts are copyrighted in the name of the author.

Is this necessary and how is it done.

Please explain. Thanks

When you write a story, you own the copyright to it. No action is required on your part to register or safeguard that copyright unless you shoose to do so.

The statement on the submissions form simply means that Literotica does not and will not ask you to surrender your copyright to them in order to get the story posted. You retain all of the rights to the story that existed when you wrote it.

(In fact, posting a story here could actually help to protect your copyright interests by providing a dated claim to the story in the possession of someone other than you.)

I always post the copyright notice and date on my stories. This way someone can't come along and say they just didn't know.
