Getting into my pants

Well, Spring is here, and I can't fit into any of last years pants.

I've never, ever, in my whole life, lost weight except for brief periods of illness. I've been underweight for most of my life. And although people say I look "just right" now, what they don't realize is that I'm obviously going to go past "just right" to "portly" and beyond, if this continues.

So for the first time in my life, I'm trying to lose weight (about 14 pounds). Any success stories from other middle-aged men here? Advice?

I'm not middle aged, but I can tell you one easy way to lose unwanted weight... get divorced.. I lost 280 unwanted pounds what way :)

Seriously though, when my wife left me, I lost all the weight I had gained while with her (20 pounds).. and I didn't want to lose the weight, hell I'd been _trying_ to gain weight. Oh well, what can ya do right?

just feel healthy joe
the more the cushion the better the pushin?
who wants bruises on their innner thighs anyway?
but im glad to see that men are fascinated by their appearances just as much as women...
im neither so im just observing.

Well, honestly.. I've always considered myself too thin. I mean, for 7 years I was 125 pounds at an inch shy of six feet (yes, 5'11" is easier, but not as fun) and my face looked so drawn due to it that people thought I was ill.. I just couldn't gain weight, and it wasn't from lack of trying, hell I grew up mostly on junk food.. I can still eat an entire extra large pizza to myself, and still have room for more (actually, still WANT more..)

I'm a glutton, I eat and eat and eat.. and all it does is give me energy, lots of energy..

Not a middle aged man, but can say that smoking and a continual pot of coffee seem to keep the weight down. :D

Actually, I have the same problem this year. I think sitting at a computer all day does that to you.

1. Excercise. The preference is loads of sex, but in lieu of that, at least a 30 minute walk every day.

2. Body breaks down starches easier in the day than at night, so protein and salad at dinner, no rice, potatos, breads, corn etc., except at lunch. Instead of seconds, have more salad.

3. If all fails, purchase new pants.

Joe, from the perspective of appearance it's probably better if you are carrying an extra few pounds when you hit middle age. The rounder your face gets, the fewer wrinkles you're likely to get :) I wouldn't worry about it. I'm no expert on men, but as they go the ones who are slightly cuddly are far more attractive than the ones with chicken legs.

damn!!! I read that do you want to get into my panties..... and thought......

but then NO I don't want to get into any girls panties.....
1. My hairy legs look funny in frilly panties
2. I probably wouldn't fit into any of them anyway.

As for me Joe.. the only thing that ever worked for me was divorce.... not only did I get rid of 150 pounds of ugly fat... but eating my own cooking and going out to the bars with dancing every night ...... lost 20 of my own pounds.

Well, that let's me out. I have gained 3 pounds in the last thirty years.

I no longer worry about it. Since I can't gain weight, I never have to lose it.

I lost 16 pounds in a month on Adkins. It affected my writing though, because I stopped writing about sex and started writing about people eating bread.

Turns out the weight wasn't really lost anyhow. Apprently it was just out in the garage waiting for me to go off the diet.

That's what I hear about it. I've had so many conflicting pieces of advice though about should, shoudn't, what to, what not to, how much/little. I just want to wear my favorite Levi's again.

I'm too lazy to do more exercise. I walk four miles cross country a day. My back gets fucked up if I run. I don't quite understand about the sex and exercise, Scarlett. Explain it so I can understand it. Or show me.

That was an awesome comment!!

Btw, still adore that AV.

Joe love...if you feel good don't sweat it ok?

Some hints I've picked up (im not male or middle aged though!)

drink water! don't force yourself to try and get the 2 litres they say you should drink (you'll just be up all night weeing!) but try and drink water reguarly through the day (I drink water with my meals and if I'm out shopping.) and you'll loose some bloat...also cut down on fizzy stuff, caffeine and alcohol if you can as that'll loose you some weight too :)

Foodwise don't starve yourself. Eat when you're hungry and don't purchase diet food as it's generally full of sugar which is as bad as the fat they're apparently not full of *L* Just cut down on your fats and sugar in take...so basically give the junk stuff a miss where you can.

And if all this sounds too much work...don't bother. you probably don't need to.

Joe, I was pushing 240 Lbs. at this time last year and I am now right around 200 lbs.

Sorry, but it was exercise that did it. Oh, I quit supersizing and I did cut a little back on the carbs, but not massively so. I also quit snacking late at night. Thing is, I wasn't trying to lose weight. I wanted to be more healthy, to once again feel a little like the athlete I once was.

I can't run because of bad knees, but I did/do walk a lot. I added a couple of five pound leg weights to increase the resistance. You would be surpised how much work an extra ten pounds on each leg adds. I do free weight workouts on my upper body. The only issue I am having is that I paid so much attention to my arms that now my chest looks off because I don't have a bench and was not doing much to help my pecs. I have been trying to fix that...

I am not so sure that you should be focusing on weight loss. It sounded like you know that 125 was too light. What are you currently? Maybe you should work on building muscle? It does have some "fringe benefits"....

PS

If you're not bored stiff let me know and i have loads of other cool stuff I've learnt on my own and through an NHS run weight management course...so ask away..

(though I reckon you just wanted to hear lots of people say "we love you just as you are" which we do. and I now have):p

It sounds like what you did is pretty much exactly what I should do. My son has a bench, and has offered to show me an upper body routine that he uses. I'm 182 lbs, should be 168 max for my build.

I'm not sure what the fringe benefits you're referring to are, but if you mean they'll allow me to score with thousands of hot babes, I'm a little tired of all that nowadays. I'm quite happy with thousands of warm babes.

I’m with Belegon.

You need good wholesome food, as opposed to fast and tasty, and exercise, exercise, exercise!

Once you pass the quarter century mark, only exercise can counteract gravity’s deteriorating effect.

In order to really get my old tone back, and to begin to look like I did once, I need to take so much exercise that I am too pooped to climb up onto the stage.
