Getting drawn into the world of fiction

Recently, after years of convincing myself that I didn't like cartoons, I'm suddenly enjoying them again.

I borrowed a Dungeons and Dragons DVD off a friend, and over the past couple of nights I've been transported right back to my childhood. Furthermore, when I'm watching it, the characters feel more real than they've ever done.

Last night I was watching an episode where Uni got her horn stolen by an evil wizard, and started to fade away. It was really heart-wrenching, and to my amazement, my eyes began to fill up.

So I've acquired another character from the world of fiction to add to my little list of characters who've touched me in some way.

To give you an idea:

Sexiest character - Lara Croft, Tomb Raider

Most trippy character - Evil Edna, the talking TV in Wil O' the Wisp

Most annoying character - Bungle - the bear off Rainbow

Most frightening character - Skeletor, from He Man

Most enviable character - Inspector Gadget

Ugliest character - Texas Pete, off Superted - it was that massive jaw...

Cutest character - Uni, from Dungeons and Dragons

Does anyone have a similar list?

I have a list, sche! :) I know exactly what you are talking about. I have no difficulty suspending my disbelief and immersing myself in an animated story world. It is my belief that a well told story has value, no matter the venue.

Let me think about my list and I will post it later. Hmm, who to include...

Most of what I watch these days are cartoons. Don't know about list like yours. I've known a few characters from animated works or games that have touched me though.

A starter list:

Kino from Kino's Journey (The Beautiful World)
Sniper Wolf from Metal Gear Solid
The kids from Grave of the Fireflies
Lust and the poor Snake Chimera from Full Metal Alchemist
Raven from Twisted Metal: Black

Yeah, it's geeky and whatnot and pathetic and so forth but there it is. And in my defense all of the works above are not light games or cartoons. All have very in depth, emotional, and brilliant story lines.

Mat - Come on, now! It doesn't have to be a cartoon character. It can be any character at all. For example, the character I most wish could be a lesbian living next door to me is Bridget Jones. I'm sure there must be loads of characters out there who've captured your imagination!

CD - Hmmm... Ariel does look kind of sexy there, but I'd have to see her in action. Maybe I should watch that movie.

Yui - Can't wait to see your list!

Lucifer - I don't think your list is geeky. I haven't heard of most of them, but that's because I tend to live with my head in the clouds. ;)

I love cartoons and it's great having a baby'cos I get to watch all my favourites again.

Talking of Texas pete....wasn't his accent awful? My little girl loves the one episode of Superted we have on an old compilation video and we watch it over and over. I do adore spottyman though :)

I'd have to really think to come up with a list but i do adore cartoons and they prevoke all kinds of emotions in me :)

The Magic Roundabout - original

I still enjoy the original TV series of The Magic Roundabout:

Dougal the Dog
Ermintrude the Cow
Dylan the Rabbit (what was he on?)

and so on.

Other favourites are by Firmin and Postgate:

Bagpuss; Noggin the Nog; Ivor the Engine.

and Asterix in the original French language Bandes Dessinés - some of the jokes don't translate.

I watched Thomas the Tank Engine whilst I was in the gym today. Haven't watched that for years and years, not since the days when Ringo Starr used to narrate. Absolutely fantastic programming IMHO. Loved the Fat Controller with his ticking offs - "You have caused disruption and delay" and his compliments - "You are a really useful engine."

Ah, they don't make nostalgia like they used to.

Thomas the tank engine as nostalgia... Shit, I feel old. *weep*

My cartoons go waaay back.

Coyote and Roadrunner, back when you could actually blow things up. Bug Bunny, ditto.

Plus Herculoids, Space Ghost, Birdman and The Galaxy Trio.

There have been some good cartoons recently. Mucha Lucha was a hoot. Batman Beyond was very cool.

I found Teen Titans fun and lusted after Raven. OK, I lusted after what she would be when she was not longer jail bait. Lit rules and all.

The latest iteration of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cleaved pretty closely to the original cominc books. Loved the Triceratons.

Shaman King was rather fun.

It almost makes me wish I had a TV again.

Would someone please tell me what is sexy about Lara Croft? She's too top-heavy, pixelated, and her head is huge and globular.

I like Morrigan from Darkstalkers.

Or She-Ra. Remember She-Ra?

My daughter was crazy about He-Man, She-Ra, and the Thundercats when they were popular. My husband was given to making snide remarks about milieus where the laser had been invented but the wheel had not, and about the rather heavy-handed Freudian symbolism in He-Man's inflatable sword. My son lives for cartoons, but his are in somewhat better taste. We happen to be watching a Warner Bros. cartoon as I write.

Boo hiss, most if not all of my favorite cartoons are off the air here.

Bugs Bunny,
Wiley Coyote,
Pepe LePew,
Marsupilami.

Oh there were more. I watched a lot of cartoons for a while for nothing else than the animation. Unfortunately right now most of the cartoons that are on here are set to the IQ of Egg Plants.

I had a she-ra doll and played she-ra and he-man in infant school.

Earl..you didn't see one of the new thomas episodes did you? oh they're awful. The theme tune isn't thomas anymore and the fat controller is no longer fat.

My hubby loves how the fat controller says "You've caused disruption and delay" to everything. *L*

Ivor the engine was one of my favourites, Dungeons and dragons, Mysterious cities of gold, dogtanion and the 3 muskerhounds, will fogg's 80 days around the world (I just sang all the theme tunes to them as i read them*L*)

I admitted to hubby the other night that I think I had a bit of a crush on Eric from dungeons and dragons. I think I quite fancied spiderman too.

I saw part of the 100 best cartoon rundown on channel 4 on Sunday and alot of cartoon reminiscing was sparked off by that. *L*

:: high-five cloudy ::

Gargoyles all the way!

I had a crush on Chernabog from Fantasia, so I was predisposed to fall for Goliath in a big way. The chest, the wingspan ... mmm ... and it's not just Goliath in that show. Macbeth is a serious hunk, too.

Other animated/illustrated hotties:
Disney's foxy Robin Hood
Dmitri from Anastasia
Nightcrawler, the swashbucklery comic book version

Og, sweet thing, Dylan was on grass, of course! And the film is rubbish. What about Tintin?

I know but I've been told that the fact that she kicks the shit out of guys kinda turns them on!

My fav cartoons are the old ones! Tom and Jerry are just the best!!

I know its not a cartoon but I fell in love with Marina from 'Stinray' when I was a kid!!

I thought you could get 'em all on the Nick Toon channels. Although, it's occurred to me that you can't get Bullwinkle, either.
