Spamming threads throughout the AH.

And those are just the highlights.

None of which even got him a slap on the hand. Oh wait, one of his propaganda alts did get banned. An alt that everyone knew was him and him alone.

If you had nailed his ass to the cross the way you should have, none of this would be a problem. By allowing him to run roughshod over this place you gave the trolls free reign and stirred the pot to boil over.

Laurel said quite specifically in a post on a previous thread of mine on September 22nd that she intended to allow posters to the GB only, to post pretty much what they like when they like and to be as insulting as they like. (One or two exceptions like allegations of pedophilia, revelation of personal details etc.)

She stated that she will through AH mod, censor similar content on the AH. Fair enough, her site, her call.

She also stated that GBr's could post political stuff on the GB if they preferred. Obviously they do that because the political board has a smaller audience than even the poets.

I guess her intention is either to make the GB the sump of the Lit sewer or to keep onside with more amenable posters.

A lot of AHr's are a bit sniffy about the GB and there is certainly a lot of crap there. However, there has been a degree of malice expressed on the AH in the past year or three which the GBr's don't come close to.

Sideshow? You have no idea how many newbies scouries ran off before they even got a chance to find out who or what he was. Do you have any idea how much crap he started in the contest threads alone. My recommendation would be to ban say three of the most prominent protagonists. It doesn't matter which three, but ban 'em and take down their stories.

Suppose for argument's sake you booted SJP, LC and Pilot and canned their 3000 or so stories. Grossly unfair of course but consider the respose. No longer would you be the sweet old lady who tries to manage the asylum, you would not be liked so much but you would in future be treated with respect , and mebbe a hint of trepidation.

The liberal minded on the AH would tut tut for a day or two. The targets would be pissed off, but every thing, especially the dear departed, would be forgotten within a fortnight. The only memory would be that Laurel had found her teeth and might do it again..

Unfair yes, effective yes and only a couple or three sacrificial lambs.

Besides, most of these people contribute constructively as well as destructively on here. I think this is a situation that's much more about management than about all out warfare. And the management is in our hands much more than in Laurel's.

If we didn't respond when people try to pick a fight just for the sake of it, the 'fight' would end up being a couple of lone posts making the poster look silly, while the rest of us could quietly get on with what we want to talk about in the thread.

If you want an example, look in the FAWC6 thread. NOIRTRASH said he was putting a story in to the competition. Then he said the rules were too complicated and he wasn't going to. Lynn said that was his choice, and left it. Recently he came in and left a comment saying 'Whose was the story with thigh in it.' Nobody responded. He came back and asked it again. Nobody responded to him. We carried on talking about our writing in the FAWC.

There are threads where I will talk to NOIRTRASH/JBJ, but not if it's clear he just wants to be disruptive. The same goes for most of the others, apart from a couple I never bother with at all because I know they will just use that to be destructive eventually.

There are dozens threads on the forum full of hotlinked photos. If I were to ban him for doing that - and not ban everyone else - would that be fair?

I went to check and your grand total for this year posting to the AH is five times and that's counting the double post this time. One time was a comment on a thread someone made about rejection of a story. The others are all either in this thread or in one of the others similar.

A few years back we tried to get an Mod in the Ah and you were one of the ones that just blew in ranting about freedom of speech and a whole lot of other crap. You weren't alone, more than a dozen people who rarely if ever posted to the AH crawled out of the woodwork and the measure got voted down.

The only reason the GB will never have a mod is that is Laurel's place to hang when she is not doing the day to day work here and she likes it being a cesspool even contributes to it with comments like "I love all the great snark here" and calling out exemplary trolls with a because that's seen as a good thing over there. She will only ban for a couple of things and somehow people have found away to get nailed for it.

And I think that's why she won't ban-except when absolutely necessary and for the same reasons in the GB-because its not fair. You can't have one forum that everyone is allowed to spew any hate they want, then ban others for doing it in other places, mods can delete posts and threads, they cannot ban.

As I said before any site that says it supports freedom of speech and encompasses harassment as part of it(which its not) gets like this.

She said it herself here (were you paying attention?)she set this place up and handed everyone the keys, it is what we make it, not what she makes it.

And as Naoko mentioned the trolls here-even Freddie in the sense of stories and occasional good advice if they stick to talking about writing only-contribute to the boards.

Its like family here-at least mine-some get along with everyone, some fight with certain people, but get along with others, but no one hates or is hated by everyone. No one here trolls everyone nor is there one person everyone trolls, except maybe Freddie, but that's been earned over a long time.

4. My main argument is that Laurel should exercise her 'editorial and proprietorial' rights, and include or exclude both people and content entirely as she sees fit. She doesn't, she shelters behind rules, and avoids taking executive/editorial decisions which are well within her ambit.

Laurel seems to be a pretty nice person but she won't get this rabble to behave until she acts decisively, in line with her best judgement - not rules, they are just an excuse for being pleasant but ineffective. And folks quibble about rules to fight back.

5. I observed that both you and Laurel used the mythical 'we' - the collective cop out. "We' do this, or, 'we' don't do that, is the invariable signature of people who in reality who end up doing precious little.

By the way, Scouries was my friend. She was the best thing that happened to this site.

She was smart, entertaining, and funny. The only time I saw her smile was when she was posting something to Literotica.

I was the only writer offered to post to her thread in her absence while she was away on vacation in Belize.

She even invited me down on her yacht in Miami at her world headquarters.

Few knew Scouries was a woman and even fewer knew she was a billionaire.

I miss her.
