I just joined, and am not quite prepared to do any kind of IM Chat. Is there anything wrong with this?? My username is a a little literal.

Different strokes for different folks. Find your niche and don't feel embarrassed nor pressured to do anything you are uncomfortable with. You are here for your own reasons and that should be sufficient. I always tell myself that I'm not here for someone else's gratification, so if all you'd like to do is read threads and post occasionally, I'd say go for it, cuz that's what I'm doing!! :)

Thanks, I've just gotten a slew of PMs. It suprised me quite a bit. >///<;

Like water_side said, you can turn off PM's through your user CP, or you can choose to receive PM's from just moderators and people on your friend list.

There are a lot of men on here who pounce on newbies with female-sounding usernames. It can be overwhelming, and you're under no obligation to respond to anyone.

Welcome to Lit. The How-To Board and How-To Café are good places to get your feet wet. :)

Welcome to Lit :rose:

You don't have to chat or IM if you don't want to - many people don't. If you don't want to turn off your PM option, you can always just ignore the sender and delete it.

Good luck and have fun :) :rose:

What she said!

You can click on the sender's name, which will send you to their profile, and you can click on the option to add them to your ignore list. This makes it so you can't see their posts in any thread, and they can't PM you. It's a nice option for those really nasty PMs, and the ones who won't take "no" for an answer!

Go to your User CP options and make yourself show as invisible, instead of online. When I did this, it cut the number of random PMs I got down significantly. Quite a few guys (usually with no/very few posts) troll the 'Who's Online?' list on the main page in an attempt to find cyber and pic partners. Then they use the shotgun approach Eilan described. If you set the option to Invisible, you won't show up on that list.

You can also ignore anyone who's harassing you. Click on their name, then select the Ignore option and confirm it on the next page.

And, no, there's absolutely nothing wrong with not chatting. I'm not particularly shy, but I don't IM with anyone I don't know very, very well; even then, I don't cyber and I rarely turn my IM program on when I'm not expecting to talk to someone (like my husband). Do whatever you're comfortable with, and don't allow anyone (including yourself!) to pressure you into anything you're not crazy about doing. :)

Thanks for the tip SweetErika, I'll keep every thing in mind. I'm slowly getting comfterble.

It also depends on where you post. There are boards on Literotica where... Well, I might as well go full-bore elitist here. :rolleyes: There are the boards for smart people, and boards for people with lower standards of entertainment and discourse. For instance, the sort of people for whom an evening's activity is to look at my AV image, work themselves into a frenzy about what they'd do if they could get their hands on me, and then send a PM with a cyber proposition without bothering to do even the most rudimentary of background checks, which (if they bothered) would inform them that the gal in my pic is not me and I am, in fact, a man. :D The point is, you will get a different reception depending on where you post--not necessarily because you're different, but because your conversational partners are.

Welcome to Lit. :)

I feel where you are coming from, been a member for about a year and only one post (I think). I'm always worried I'll get identified, hence the random jumble of letters as a user name. Take it slow...I sure have.

Don't be surprised at the number of PMs. I ignore the vast vast majority of them. I haven't had many in a while, which is nice. There are times when I come to literotica to chat dirty with someone, but most of the time I'm not. Sometimes I want to read stories, sometimes I'm looking for an answer to a question and sometimes I'm just bored.
