I recently learned that even at the turn of the last century Germany was still considered to be several different nations (Prussia, Bavaria Westphalia etc.) each with its own Royalty and institutions.

This made me wonder. What is the German perception of Germany, a century later? Do you consider yourselves a completely united nation? Or is there still the element of a federation?

We are Germany - ONE Germany

We are Germany since 1871.

There are still "regions/countries" - the socalled Bundesländer (like Bavaria, Nordrhein-Westfahlen, Baden-Würtemberg etc. with local kinda "gouvernments" but we are GERMAN.

The only last thing we haven't totally and completly "incorporated" imo. is the union between east and west Germany after the Berlin Wall fell, but hey ... it is just something that will take time for all of us who have never known there were not two seperate (and god HOW different) countries. Like for me the DDR was even more incredible and distant as e.g. Italy or Spain or France and it is a little odd to think it is now all Germany ... the clash of cultures was just a HUGE one, one country being a very very democratic as much as the other being a very very communist country and 10 years is not a long time to feel "one" to the last fibre of your being, specially if things go from "being shot when crossing the border" to "You are one nation" in a kinda over night process.

*winks* but it is like siblings - you may bitch and moan about them but god help anyone to attack your sibling and they will be confronted with family wrath *g*

We ARE one GERMANY
