General feedback question

Why are people so rude and act like they would be the best writer's in the world and all others are just garbage when they take the time to write some feedback? And why do they do it under anonymous names?

So I wrote my first story here and it bombed. I can handle that and even the negative comments. But, what irritates the hell out of me is when they only say the story sucks, without telling me why. If it needs better descriptive words- fine. If it is too long or too short or could use a better plot- fine. But "that was complete BS" under anonymous rubs my last nerve to no end.

I am guessing there are some true journalists on here, but I would think most are just people with great imaginations. I am willing to bet all the anonymous commenters aren't earning money for the penmanship. If you want to tell me how to improve and what you didn't like, then at least sign your name to it. I realize not all comments come from members, but if you are not a member, then why bother commenting. And if you are a member, then we can all make it better with good CONSTRUCTIVE critisim (either positive or negative).

Thanks. I feel better now.

If it sucks badly enough, spending my time to tell the writer why, is beyond my tolerance, but rather than informing the artist of his 'suckery' I leave no comment at all. Sadly, not all critics have my forbearance.

I feel your frustration. Been there, suffered through that. How can people simply cruise through the site with a simple left-click of the mouse and judge what we have spent days, weeks, possibly months creating. We, writers, take personal experience and put our thoughts and feelings on the line only to have some 'anonymous' person whack an axe and slice away our dignity and confidence.

I have no good answer. I've started similar threads. All I can say is what others have shared with me. You have to have personal confidence and conviction in what you write. Any pride needs to come from you first. If the masses contribute to it, fantastic. If not, be firm that you have done the best you can and be proud of your accomplishment despite the evil that others would try and inject.

It's no solace, it's simply reality. Those can can write, create. Those can't write, destroy.

I'm so sorry anonymous has paid you a visit.

I don't believe the anonymous comments come from other Lit writers. Honestly. If you look at some of the Public Comments on writers who have stories in the Valentine's Contest, many are from other contest entrants. We all read and vote and offer encouragement to each other. And we always sign our names.

Any comment sent by an anonymous troll should be deleted and forgotten. If they do not have the balls to sign their name to a truly negative statement it shouldn't be worth worrying over. It isn't constructive, it isn't helpful, it's just some idiot's way of telling you the story wasn't what they thought it would be.

And you can't please everyone. If you write a story about MMF sex, someone will complain there weren't two women involved. If you write a story about Incest someone will complain that they don't like incest stories.

Hang in there. Writing improves with practice. And you'll build a following as you continue to submit.

SSS is exactly right, perfectly on target, etc.

When I first started posting I stressed about where I placed my stories. I mean, do I post in First Time, Horror, etc. Where will I get the most exposure, the most votes????

A wise man (I don't recall, maybe Blacksnake) told me that if I write it, they will cum. Once you gather an audience, they don;t watch for categories, they look for your name popping up next to story titles. It still happens now. I'll have a reader read a new post, say he/she loves the story, and is going to look at others I wrote to see what they missed.

Write, write, write. Gather an audience. And listen for feedback. Respond to what they say (for the most part).

Geez, and I asked these questions once.

stories?

i do not know, what kind, of story, you say you wrote, but if it yet another mushy girlie story, and i found it by accident thinking it would be something else,...
i do not make,,,comments...at all..good or bad.
i just go on to another.
just as an example here

i am not one to yell at an author for anything
i know "I" CANT write so "I" dont TRY.

So did I....

Anonomouse is just that a mouse... if he had anything to say or the ablity to say it then he would and then have the courage to sign it.....

Trolls on the other hand are totally different.... but they still suck blue lollypops....

Thanks

Thanks for the votes of confidence. I am big enough to ignore the trolls, but I guess I just wasn't expecting that much negative commentary. I have learned a few things, though from the few who were truthful enough to tell me why.

Thanks to the insight to what to expect. I am not out for votes, but if the general population can't find something to enhance their sexual well-being from my stories, then I need to change what I am doing.

The next story will be much better, guranteed.

You think you had it bad!

If you're ever feeling low about comments, check out my first (weak) attempt at a story. I believe I hold the record for being called the most names on a first attempt...just kidding. Several very prominent Literotica writers contacted me privately and told me to keep my head up. I was advised to just post the rest of the story and live with the beating. Of course I didn't listen and tried to fix it to make the critics happy.

The result is a story I've been working on for two months and is further away from being submitted than the day the first chapter posted. The readers who liked the story (believe it or not, there were people who liked my first try), are now completely pissed off because I've left them hanging. I've been having headaches and blurred vision lately and if finally occured to me that it's from staring at the computer screen for hours every night. Listen to the very wise people on this board. Make your story something you are happy with and don't worry about anything else.

The experience caused me to try twice as hard with my second story and I've been blown away by the kind things people have said. Even if they had hated that story too, I wouldn't have cared. I loved every word of it. The positive support was just the icing on the cake. The best thing you can do is stay in contact with the other authors on the site. Some of these people are unbelievably kind. I could tell you stories about how much they helped me that are stunning (one author sent me a dozen emails supporting me with a personal problem I was having).

Good luck with your stories, don't ever let someone talk you out of trying. Even if it's not what you hoped for, maybe you're one closer to that really good story. Don't forget to find an editor you trust. They are incredibly important (assuming you listen to their advice...apologies to my first editor).

.

It's important also to note that many, MANY people get a vicarious thrill from the ability to be mean without repercussion. It's a childish behavior and says more about the commentor's feelings of insecurity and lack of self worth than it does about anything you've written. In fact, their comment could be said to have nothing to do with you at all. You are merely a convenient wall on which they can scrawl their junior-high witticisms.

The absolute best thing you can do is ignore them. Such people usually live for attention, any kind at all, even negative. If you respond, they feel suddenly empowered for making you feel bad -- aren't they so marvelous, they made you cry, blah blah blah. Ignore them, and they will have to go elsewhere for their fix.

There is a reason they are called trolls, and it has nothing to do with living under bridges (well, not much.)

I agree...

Just ignore them.

The ending of my first story, "Written Just For You" suddenly attracted a string of abusive comments. I was described as being "sub-human" with "sub-human fetishes" and a "wife-slut" amongst other things.

I was totally unprepared for this and can remember spending a whole day in tears. As no-one knew at the time that I was writing erotica it was pretty difficult explaining why I was so upset!

One of the reasons I submit to Literotica is to learn how to deal with negative comments. I have become better at dealing with bad feedback and each time, after the initial shock, it becomes a little easier.

Now I laugh at stupid comments but if someone leaves a bad comment I see it as a kind of compliment... Obviously what I have written has had some sort of effect on the reader...

And that tells me I am doing something right...

janiexx :D

I agree

The answer is just to grin and bear it. Remember that those who feel they can be rude and insulting under the cover of anonymity have no courage and pretty low self esteem. Usually their English sucks too.

Go ahead and write what YOU want, if you like the finished product then well and good, maybe others will like it too. Never worry about the morons who attempt to belittle you, they are anonymous and should be treated as though they do not exist

Peter

Thanks

Like I said before: I am OK with the negative comments, they just a little deeper than I expected is all. I am not out to win best story or even collect most votes. Quite frankly, I don't care how people rate my stories. I would, however, like to make a few people horny maybe even get some off while they picture themselves inside my story. I am green and have a ways to go.

In any event, I will gladly accept critisim in the hopes of making a hotter scene take form in my words.

Thanks for all the votes of confidence. BTW, if anyone can off suggestions, please contact me. The story is Party Cleanup

Feedback

I read the story. There are some editing problems right from the start but those didn't set me off from the main story.

My comments are as follows:

1) I didn't get a sense for the characters. Why is there a party and who are the guests? A bit of character development would help, I had no interest in them and therefore had little interest in what happened when they got there

2) You used terminology that I am personally not comfortable with. To quote: "my man-tunnel and my wife's tongue-rocket. In her love canal, there was so much syrup because of her juicy-juice and Tim's schlong sludge, I was almost drowning." I can suppose what you're saying perhaps, but can't be sure.

If you're really interested in writing and want assistance, PM me with your idea(s) and I'll be happy to mentor.

I've got some smug putdowns from "anonymous" aswell. I wouldn't worry about it. How sad is it to carry on reading a story that you hate, then send someone insults on how bad it was? It probably says more about themselves than your story. People have all sorts of fantasies and tastes, I'm sure some people enjoyed it. Just carry on writing about what turns you on, don't try and change for others.
