I do not think that Rob was intentionally trying to be hurtful.
Byron could definitely rant, usually at people he was fond of. He liked "Roberto"

Much of the time the rant was really at someone or something else. Other times he just did not understand that he was upsetting people or why. Wings is a perfect example. I explained what I could to him and I think he was getting it, mellowing.

He was over protective as hell esp. of me, but that didn't always stop his ranting at me or posting stuff at me about all over the board when he was upset.
He really thought many people hated him, but he was actually fond of many here.

this sounds pretty much my own thoughts on the matter, noor. and since you knew him better than any of us here i'm glad to see you posting this. he could be an insensitive, hurtful bastard to people - but i don't believe he ever thought what he said would hurt others and it made him unhappy when he realised he had. we both know he was far from perfect, but what a wonderful man he was despite - and maybe because - of this. he's remembered fondly by many, even by those he managed to piss off.

Given the chance and some lag time, he could also be self-policing. One day after realizing he had been particularly impossible and infuriating, he said "You should probably just shoot me and get a replacement" I replied "how about you fix this?" and he said "okay" and did.

I think motivation matters. I certainly don't think an alt like sukit_beyatch or Solid Muldoon is anything more than an attempt at humor, and is not on the same level as an alt created to create trouble or troll people.

My first memories of Byron were when people were referencing him, but no such person was around. You guys (understandably) often call each other by past names or nicknames..

First time I recall him giving me shit...I forget about what, he was Nautius, I kept hearing "Byron this Byron that" and it took a while to connect the dots.

He gave me a bit of grief, but softened when he started correcting my latin.

Depending on scheduling I am a night owl and he was always mellowest at about 1 or 2 am my time.

This being the last round, more people are voting, sure. But it also makes sense that alts are being continuously created to either assure their spot in the last HOF round or assure I'm NOT in it. Byron rarely ever gave me shit on the board for anything since the beginning of us both being here, even when I was trying to wind him up.
His reaction to my posts always seemed akin to someone who notices a baby on the battlefield, stops the entire battle, runs out and convinces the baby off the field and then goes right back to fighting, while the baby then sits on the sidelines with a lollipop or something.
He was so shy around me on the board, if I hadn't broken my leg we might not have ever spoken.
