Under Texas law, a Court is supposed to take a child's opinion and desire (if 8 or older) into great consideration in determining visitation rights and custody arrangements.

However, if one parent is gay, the child's wishes are not given as much leverage. This same parent who has such limited visitation, and is not allowed to see the child in the presence of any other adults (other than the mother and family) still pays $800 /mo in child support.

How fucked up is that?

Two things should NOT be connected here.

First sexual orientation should not be connected to visitation or custody rights.

Second Child Support shouldn't be connected to visitaion rights. Your not renting the kid!

You think sexual orientation should have an impact on visitation? Why, pray tell?

In Vermont Gay men and women can get married. Not forced out in order to facilitate visitation. The South is a scary place.
