I'm a straight guy, but writing erotic literature for gay men appeals to me. Firstly, it'd be a a bit of a challenge as a writer. Secondly, it'd be an interesting exercise mentally and emotionally, forcing myself to "think outside the box" as it were. I think it'd be fun and I'm going to get started tonight.

I havent read too much gay erotica (for obvious reasons) and I'm interested to know what kind of things gay men like reading about, what kind of fantasies appeal to you guys? Importantly, what kind of cliches should I avoid?

Basiclly, are there any gay dudes out there with a particular fantasy you'd like someone to turn into a story?

i believe that among gay men, the conversion of formerly-straight men is a common theme. if you're interested, i'd suggest checking out the top lists in the gay male category if you've not already done so. and i tip my hat to you for your interest in stretching yourself as a writer.

good luck!

Someone was just requesting gay stories with "bear" men...I'm not sure if thats enough of a story in itself, but it is a route to look at.

Thanks! I did check it out, and obviously the straight angle is one obvious way to approach it - I just want to try and avoid cliches.

Hmmm, that might be stretching myself too far!

Although..... something in a Turkish hamamm maybe.........

Hey, Tiger, I like both reading and writing Gay Erotica so let me see if I can help at all--though I'm still a novice myself, and not a gay male (and so can't really help you on a viseral level).

There are, obviously, various types of gay erotica and you have to decide which appeals most to you:

1) There's some very romantic Gay Erotica in which men find the love of their life. Check out "My Subway Angel" and "By the Sea." These stories often involve less idealized men (penis is normal sized, maybe they've got love handles or they're balding), more tenderness, story and emotion.

2) There's "my first time," stories--which are either young gay men having their first time and/or straight guys giving gay sex a try (the neighbor invites them over to watch porn--it turns out to be gay porn--and next thing they know the neighbor's mouth is on their penis)--which either turns the straight guy or just leaves them with the memory of that sweet moment. Check out these two for the latter: "Whole Heart," and "A Bird in Winter."

3) There's the rough stuff. Straight men forced into sex with a guy, blackmailed, tricked. Young men bullied by older guys or by their bosses. Slaves submitting to masters, men in jail forced to submit to their cellmates. Check out "Purgatory Games."

4) There's the rough stuff with humor and affection--the leather/gay SM world of consentual dominance and submission. Check out "Clothesline" and "Spontaneous."

5) And there's the quick, down and dirty; the fun and funny encounters. Male models finding themselves seduced by photographers, actors auditioning for roles and ending making love to the director, bellhops who offer more than just room service, random one night or one moment encounters of pure sex. Check out "Anonymous" (the coffee shop story).

There are even stories of straight men encouraged by their wives--where the wife tricks the husband or give him the gift of a male lover, a chance to try out gay sex with her blessing and often with her watching.

Which of these sounds like the kinds of story you'd like to write? What sounds not only exciting to you storywise but erotic?

I don't know that you should try to avoid cliches, per se. Sometimes a cliche is part of the fantasy. It just depends on which cliche it is.

One thing you can do is use the fact that you are a guy. A gay guy is still a guy--think of what causes your cock to stir (the smell of a woman?), turn it into a guy (the fragrance of male sweat, maybe) and give your gay male the same response. It feels the same, and his desires are just as powerful--they're just aimed at another guy instead of a girl. And he's going to get a testosterone response from his lover instead of an estrogen response. Think with your testosterone.

Does that help?

Thanks 3113. I think a combination of 2 and 3 would be the order of the day.

I take your point about cliches, if its a cliche because lots of people like it, why avoid it?! Its a good point.
