Don't have to wait. Check out the trailer. From what I'm seeing (and reading) this is going to be faithful down to the smallest details and as literal as possible. We're talking faithful to the book the way the "Watchman" movie took panels from the comic and put them up on screen exactly as "drawn." As much as that can be done taking the written word and putting up on screen whatever is described or said as exactly as possible, this movie seems to be trying to do.

Interesting choice. Baz Luhrmann is not exactly renowned for his slavish loyalty to the source material or historical accuracy. Maybe he decided to try a change of style?

YES!!! I discovered it by accident when I saw The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey a few months ago. I never get motion sick in cars, planes, boats, roller coasters, and then, bam...had to leave the theater and wait for the movie to end in the lobby. I didn't want my friends to miss the movie. I was so disappointed.

I don't understand why it happened. Like I said, I never get motion sickness.

Forcing you to see a dimension you already see = Static interference.

Modern Music

Apparently there will be one significant difference from the book--modern music. Presumably background music for certain scenes by artists like Kanye. Which I don't mind it when it works (I think the Marie Antoinette movie used "I Like Candy" to great effect during an "indulgence" montage and, most especially, sparingly). But I get really bugged if I feel the filmmaker is doing it just to do it. Kinda like "lookie" ain't this cool-and-hip and post-modern

We shall see which category this falls into with Gatsby. Whether it connects the present with the past in doing so, or come across as doing it just to do it. One now wonders, however, will the characters Charleston to Kanye?

I just saw a commercial for the movie. I really liked the look of the movie. I was not so impressed with the music, though. It doesn't seem to fit. Either, use music that fits within the time of the movie or update the setting of the movie so the modern music fits.

I love what Baz Luhrmann does with moden music in period pieces. Like this scene at the climax of Moulin Rouge, the the tango dancer singing (sort of) Roxanne by the Police.

There seems to be a similar song in Gatsby, that I remember from the trailer, but it is escaping me right now ...

Sometimes, anachronistic music works. I loved the way it was included in films like Plunkett & MacLeane and A Knight's Tale. Sometimes, music out of time seems to bridge the gap between the era depicted and that of the audience watching it. In a way, it serves to tell the audience, "we know we aren't being completely accurate, but it's fun to watch."

Like you said, we'll see.

Just saw the movie.

I really liked it, especially the music and cinematography.

What he was going for with the modern music was to get across the excitement and the raw thrill of what Jazz was at the time. He mixes a lot of the modern music with Jay-z and kanye and Sia and the others with jazz beats.
