Garden chat

Not time for planting here yet. I can break ground and lime the soil, but the soil's still too cold. Will be able to plant seeds in about two weeks, and tomato and pepper plants at the end of the month. Pondering trying okra this year.... my zucchini was a disaster last year so I'm doubtful about it. Hmmm what to do.

Carson, if you have a decent amount of room, I can get you a copy of the beds my dad uses. he had some fantastic cucumbers, squase & egg plants in them. I am sure they would work for Zucchinis.

If mom & dad can raise them in Jackson, someone ought to be able to raise em in arizona.

Yup, they raise 'em. My mother is one of the many stubborn masochistic souls babying their roses through the hell of summer.

I can't do wooden raised beds because of termites... anything else (stone) too costly.

my garden is 16x24.

My dad uses treated yard timbers. I'll get the specs from him, if you like?

Old tires work pretty well. :D

Edit: So do hay bales, unless they're a termite treat, too. ;)

Yep, I would! However, I am poor (and lazy).

(Old tires would take up way too much space Min, that has been discussed. :D )

I'm going home here shortly. I'll send you the specs from Jackson.

Carson, if you can find old railroad ties, they're perfect. We get 'em free around here, and have used them for that, and pull posts for the fence, since they don't rot.

Yeah... thought about those, but they're so big (and I am lazy and have a bad back  )

a neighbor with a tractor, maybe?

The only thing about haybales (and I'm assuming you're in the south) is that they'll rot in the humidity.

Good point :D That's not so much an issue here so I hadn't thought about that.

Even that much raking and landscaping is too much work

PMSL! It's supposed to be relaxing. Suppose you could just draw designs in the dust around your computer monitor... :D

That's more like it. :D There are faces drawn in the dust on the dashboard of my car that have been there for months....

That's the only use I've found for my husband.

*shrug*

He keeps my cars clean, at least.
