A reporter from the British channel SkyNews approached Amanda Chase, state senator
from central Virginia who has described herself as "Trump in heels," at the Jan. 18
Lobby Day Patriot Food Drive in Richmond, Virginia

The reporter asked Chase, who spoke at the Jan. 6 rally but left ahead of the riot,
to clarify that she was referring to the attack itself:
"Is that what was happening at the Capitol Building?"
"Is that what it was all about?"

"Absolutely. Absolutely," Chase replied. "I think the big concern is that we're
losing our republic. It's been around for 400 years."

" We the people want to make sure to preserve our republic."

[Fact check: The United States was founded in 1776, making it 245 years old this July.]

Last week, the Virginia State Senate voted to revoke Chase's only committee assignment
as punishment for a Facebook video in which she expressed sympathy with the rioters,
calling them "patriots" and aligning herself with their insurrection.

(The social media platform later suspended her account.)

State Sen. John J. Bell, a Democrat, said that Chase's apology "fell far short"
and confirmed that the body would move forward this week with censure,
which carries no practical penalties.

Joshua Macias, 42, of Virginia Beach, co-founder of Vets for Trump
appeared in a Facebook Live video with Virginia state Sen. Amanda Chase
(R-Chesterfield),

Video= Amanda Chase introduced Joshua Macias as an organizer of the Wednesday rally
along with several other people sitting with her, and Macias said that “the enemy is here,
it’s not just at the gate, it’s within, we see it everywhere.”

On Wednesday, according to the motion by Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney
Andrew Wellbrock, Joshua Macias was a scheduled speaker at a “Freedom Rally”
near the Capitol.

Macias posted a video of himself near the steps of the Capitol, interviewing a man
who had been inside.

had a “very good and cordial” meeting Thursday at Mar-a-Lago,

At the top of the agenda of Thursday’s meeting, according to the Save America PAC,
was Republican efforts to retake control of the House in 2022.

Thursday’s statement from the Save America PAC claimed, falsely, that the former

During a discussion with Newsweek, Republican strategist Whit Ayers
laid out how things might pan out if Trump moves forward with his idea.

Cruz’s latest problem began late Wednesday, when Twitter users began sharing
photos allegedly showing Cruz and his family in line to board a flight at
Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

The flight departed in the 4 p.m. hour on Wednesday en route to Cancun,
the resort city in Mexico.

Additional photos later circulated on Twitter showing Cruz on the plane, including one
of him seated and reading from his phone.

By Thursday morning, Democratic group American Bridge was calling for his resignation
According to the flight-tracking service FlightAware, the United Airlines jet departed
just before 5 p.m. local time and landed in Cancun at around 7:45 p.m.

By Thursday morning, Cruz was listed as a standby passenger for business class on a
flight from Cancun to Houston, scheduled to depart at 2:35 p.m. But his name was
soon scrubbed from the list, suggesting that Cruz had a confirmed seat in economy class.

While Cruz described the Cancun trip as a request from his children, at least one other
parent at their school raised concerns about the getaway and inquired about whether
Cruz's family would have to quarantine after returning to the U.S., according to a
person familiar with the matter.

Kristi Noem, South Dakota governor is greeting donors next week at Mar-a-Lago,
Trump’s Palm Beach resort, according to an invitation obtained by POLITICO.
The March 5 gathering, officially a fundraiser for Noem’s reelection campaign,
will be hosted by Donald Trump Jr. and girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle.

Unofficially, it’s Trump Jr.’s first such fundraising event of the new election cycle —
and an early sign of how the former president’s son intends to anoint the next generation
of Trump acolytes. Of course, Trump himself has yet to declare his own intentions,
freezing Noem and other potential 2024 contenders in place for now.

(R-WI) was questioned about sharing a conspiracy theory during a Senate hearing
that the Capitol insurrection was driven by "provocateurs"

Johnson also defended his claim-
that the gathering "didn't seem like an armed insurrection" — a statement
PolitiFact rated "Pants on Fire" — by arguing that none of the rioters fired
their weapons. This does not change the fact that the protesters had guns
and improvised explosive devices, and that a number of them were arrested
on gun charges and had their weapons confiscated.
