My head was spinning. The noise was too loud. There were too many people. There was too much confusion. The party was somehow too much of everything. It wasn't my first party. It wouldn't be my last. But somehow it was different and confusing and just ...just too much.
This wasn't like a normal alcohol high. I had those before - not that I drank too much too often - but this was different. It was just like my feet were a bit off the ground and I couldn't gain traction.
I was a bit relieved when Robert came over to me with a fresh glass of wine - not because of the wine, but because I knew he would serve as an anchor to reality, help me make sense out of what was going on. His arm went around my waist, and as usual, his hand crept up just under my braless breast, his thumb gently teasing me through my blouse. And, as usual, it made me laugh. He sort of directed me to where the music was less loud and there were fewer people, actually me her out of the room into a back room where there was the pungent smell of tobacco and pot.
There at the table sat two other couples flipping cards at each other as they chatted away. They smiled at me as Robert helped me sit down.
"Are you sure she wants to play?" asked Fred, Robert's brother.
"Sure she does. Don't you, Lari."
I giggled: "If you want to."
"You know what we're playing?" asked Cindi.
"Uh uh. no"
"It's dare poker," explain Bill. "Loser does what the winner dares. Don't do it and you have to give up a piece of clothing."
"Sure," said Robert. "Don't you, Lari."
I giggled again. I had heard about this kind of game, and was always curious, but was mildly surprised when I heard myself agree. I think it was because of my spinning and foggy head.
