Gags used to be a limit for me, prior to my relationship with Dawnie. Even our first few years together, she avoided gags mostly because I tend to be quiet and we had no need for one.

Lately our play has intensified, and my ability to be "stoic" and quiet has lessened. I purchased a stuffed leather gag which came in the mail today. It is about 2" inches thick.

The only gags I've ever used before were more like bit gags....so this is quite a stretch for me and my jaw aches after just a few minutes in it. However, it's a wonderful sensation and will do very well for muffling sound, which is what we want.

My question is....will I get used to it over time or does the ache in my jaw indicate that it is simply too much for me? I'm hoping not at it isn't returnable, but I have no experience in gags and figured some of you may have some insight as if "training" your mouth and jaw to a gag is a feasable hope. It's not a HUGE stretch, just more than I've ever felt before.

It depends.

2" shouldn't be too much for most people, but if you've got a really small mouth, it might be.
1 3/8" might be a better choice.

Duration has some effect as well; longer times, smaller gags, would be my rule of thumb. Serious long-term wear can affect dentition, as well, with many types of gags.

That said, if it's not an outrageous stretch, you can "train" yourself to get used to it, but I don't know all the particulars, like your widest jaw opening, bite radius, that sort of thing. Facial massage can also help loosen the muscles, but again, without a ton of specific information, I can't make recommendations.

Side note regarding gags - I have a homemade ballgag I made with a lacrosse ball. Hard rubber and large diameter prevent it from being comfortable at all, even with my huge mouth. I also made one with a darning egg, dog collar and scraps of suede. That one works for long term usage - just make sure you coat the darning egg with something (I used Tool Dip), as the raw wood will alternately absorb drool, dry out, and when you go to take the gag out, you'd lose a layer of skin off your lips. Not fun.

Thanks for your reply :)

I never THOUGHT of my mouth as small, but suddenly it feels like it is!

The good thing about this gag is you can bite the hell out of it without ruining it (which is a big plus for me as I'm a biter when I'm in pain....I often bite pillows lol) so my mouth as some room to move a bit if I bite, unlike no give at all of a rubber ball gag.

I wish I had gotten the small as that was 1.5 inches, but it's non-returnable of course.

Maybe, maybe not.

Ball gags kinda scare me. I do have a smallish mouth and they all look so damned big. Plus, I have a really touchy gag reflex... another unattractive thing. I like the bit gags, though.

Maybe I need to research the ball gag types more for smaller ones. And maybe you can keep us posted on how this eventually works for you: i.e. if you can adjust to the one you have or how that goes...

Rather than purchasing a gag, have you thought about using other items that aren't specifically made to be a gag?

Panties can make good gags, especially if you've been wearing them recently.

Something else that's fun is a sponge ball or foam toy. It's soft and flexible. If you want to make it more secure, you can wrap a scarf, plastic wrap, bondage tape (not sticky - adheres to itself), sports tape (sticks to itself and has a little bit of give to it) over it and around the head. Good old duct tape will work, but the adhesive can irritate the skin and also be difficult to remove.

If you have a touchy gag reflex, something to keep in mind when looking at smaller gags is that they have some room to move in your mouth - including deeper, which may incite the reflex.

Now, if you want a gag that looks like a gigantic ball, look around for wedge-shaped gags. I don't know what parts of your mouth and tongue incite your gag reflex, so they may be right out - but they give the look of a larger ball without the jawbreaking stretch a larger ball would bring. They're usually done in a squishy foam rubber, like a hand exercise ball, and can be bitten through - something else to be careful of.

Ball gags scare me too, because I can't move my jaw/mouth at all and I panic about it locking up or being unable to swallow. That's why we went with the stuffed leather ballgag...it still has that severe muffling ability, but you can bite into it and move your mouth and allow to swallow.

I wore it last night while I was getting my ass fucked rather hard, and while my mouth felt pretty sore after it was taken out, it was a good "used" feeling. So I did better with it than I thought, and after a few minutes was able to get a hang of breathing and swallowing with more ease. So I think with some practice I should be able to do just fine with it.

Here is a picture of the gag I purchased...the one she is modeling is the medium (which is what I got). I think the small would have been perfect, but now I'm happier with this one as muffling was really what we were after and this one muffles very well.

Up until now we've been doing this actually...panties don't work as well as a gag as people like to think in my opinion. It's sexy and all, but rather unpractical as the material tends to go further back into your mouth than is safe, especially for someone who is not used to gags and has trouble adjusting to them.

We were using our own makeshift leather and rope gag, but the problem with that was it kept coming untied. We wanted something with a firm buckle that would stay put despite my fighting it and that was very muffling. Sub-shop had 40% off all gags and their products are very high quality, so it was a good time to purchase :) I just misjudged on the size a bit, but it's working out to be usable although not as comfortable as I would like. Ma'am says comfort isn't an issue for her...of course.

Ballgags don't really muffle all that well, and a big mouth like me can even articulate intelligible words around them. Stuffed gags like the one pictured are much better sound dampeners. For serious sound stopping, you can go to the absolute extreme - I tried this once, and while it wasn't that bad for me, I wouldn't recommend it for everyone:

Stuff an entire damp bandana under the tongue.
Tie another bandana around the head, between the teeth.
Cover the mouth with a damp washcloth.
Wrap an ace bandage or some vet wrap around the now seriously stuffed and covered mouth, or even the enrtire head if you have enough.

Like I said - extreme, very silencing, and I wouldn't recommend it for everyone. But, being stuffed and wrapped that tight was pretty amazing, for me. My only concern was sinuses stuffing up, since my nose was definitely my only breathing passage, layered like that.

This is always my problem as I have sinus problems..fortunately he also has them so does relate to some extent. We rarely use a gag but when we do it is one of those ball gags with the holes in to allow breathing through the mouth if necessary. Not great for muffling though.
