How could you be sorry to hear he doesn't have to work for more than a year because of a severence package? That sounds great to me.

Because moving sucks. All that packing and unpacking. Just yuck!

Sorry to hear this Sparky, but enjoy the time you and your family will have together.

Thanks for your kind words..... all.

And hey - now I can tell all - I don't give two shits. Before - I cloaked my real self because of my job. Now? What job.

I've never really been too worried about internet stalkers - and weirdos. Only my employer finding out "it's actually me" saying all this shit here on this board.

But now I can tell you all my true story - with all the facts. Something I have told you all is important - even if you must "hide" yourself a bit due to your own difficulties with internet security. I always suggested that you be as "real' here as you can.

That's why I don't like trolls at all - totally fake. To me, reality and the more of it, the better - is what makes this board fun.

My real name is Parker - my first name that is. The Shebabe is Sheila. Our baby son, now almost 2 is AJ, short for Arthor Jonathan.

We have boh been working for The Freedom Forum (not nearly as scary as it sounds) based out of Arlington Va.. It has a wesite - check it out. It's basically a foundation that supports and fosters First Amendment freedoms. It's run by print news types who once worked for the Gannet Company, a very large news orgaization made up mostly of newspapers - not the least of which is USA Today. I (Sheila and I both) worked for USA Today and Gannet before working for the foundation. She's a PR/writer and I am a Broadcast/Audiovisual Producer.

We were originally sent to NYC to "start/build" a new facility that would function as a small Newseum (a museum for news) and a sort of First Amendment think tank. The Freedom Forum now operates a large Newseum in Arlington and has purchased a good chunk of land on the Mall in DC to build an even bigger one - due for completion in '05 or '06 - they hope.

In the 5/6 years we've been up here - things have deteriorated - the death by cancer of our original Director and a series of other - not so enthused Directors resulted - 5 of them. And the head honcho down in Arlington (a fellow no very enamored with NYC) developed new missions that swayed any focus from NYC. Now with the massive project of the new Newseum on the mall - and the stock market diving as we speak. They've pulled the plug on NYC entirely (last year they halved our staff).

I've been with them 15 years - Sheila 10. Two thirds of the staff are being "asked" to take the buy-outs. A third of the VP's have been asked to take them as well. A huge cut.

The Washington Post and AP have picked up the story and will run more on this.

I have become less and less enthused about "who I work for" over the years. The First Amendment is a great thing - however - the "true philosophy" of it does not run all that deep into the organization I work for. In fact - saying that - what I just said - might get me fired.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg - so you see how one might get less enthused over time.

We are looking at this whole thing as a positive life change and will take advantage of that way of thinking. Sheila and I celebrated our 7th (the beginning of it) year of marriage last night. And I told her - lucky 7 - ya know?

So, thanks again for you thoughts - we'll be just fine. And if you might have any conncections for jobs - let us know.

Later.

Sounds like you were doing good work Sparky. Sorry you got screwed over by poor managment and then all this other crap. Not much you can do but rebuild and start over.

I'd love it. Most of my apartments (four or so) were in the Hell's Kitchen/Broadway area, which I loved. (Nothing like having Times Square for your backyard.) But my last apartment was in the East 80s, so I know the area well. Charming part of town.

Sorry about your job, Sparky (or "Parker" -- I'm surprised you didn't choose "Spidey" as your handle). It sounded like an interesting place. (By the way, you ever hear of Free Speech TV or the First Amendment Channel? I'm sure you have.)

Well, if you have to lose a job it sounds like you went about it the right way. Good luck.

thanks for sharing that sparky it helps hearing things like that to get to know a person better

it sounds like really worthwhile and interesting work im sorry that it lost some of its charm's though it sounds like you got out of it in time maybe you can find another job just as meaningful

Wishing you the best of luck...

All of us here at Lit will be your personal cheerleading squad and fan club.:)

Sparky/Parker (<---- great name, by the way),

Despite the major bump in your life, it sounds like you're heading in a great new direction. Maryland has some beautiful areas, and with your severance package and area of expertise, you have the enviable luxury of time to pursue a perfect job.

Somehow I have a feeling you will squeeze every precious moment out of your break, and bounce back even better than before.

Well Sparky

Congrats on 7 years of wedded bliss. Also good luck on turning a "negative" into a positive. Good things come out of bad situations. Believe you me, I know.

Best wishes to you and shebabe. I know things will work out for the best for you both.

Parker

hey sugar. I'm sorry to hear about yours and Sheila's jobs. I'm very happy, though, to see that you have a wonderful attitude about the whole thing.

You know, y'all could always come down this way. Beautiful country here in TN, y'know? (smile)

Give a kiss to AJ and keep in touch via email babe.
