Minor article in the Sat, Washington Post if you care to become a detective. Lot's of people lost their jobs in our place of work - two thirds, top to bottom.

We got a great severance package - essentially we don't have to have a job until Jan. 1 2003. Not bad. Full pay, full bennies til then.

But it still sucks.

I had accumulated 5 weeks paid vakay - she 4, doubtful we will bargain that in to the new gigs.

We are up for anything, could end up anywhere - but until "then" - we're regrouping down in DC/Northern Va. at our condo of easy expense.

NYC is history. We love it but - financially now - it makes no sence.

So - anybody out there want to live and own an apartment in NYC - now's yer chance - Dixon????????

We'll give you a deal - Upper East Side, 73rd and 1st - one of the best neighborhoods here - great (the best) public schools in NYC. And totally safe. We hope it will go fast with all the Southern Manhattanites displaced by the towers comming down.

This southern boy is heading back south - Fredrick MD is looking real good - got hot irons (for both of us) in the job fire there - and hey, we would live in the city. Some city? It's a town to me. But historic and cool - right in town.

But - that's a maybe - we'll keep you posted.

We are fine - we are strong. We got bennies. We got plenty of pad. Just got to get new jobs in mid-age is all. Only slightly scary.

I'm very sorry to hear that Sparky. It looks like the Big Apple is about to become another Flint, Mich. I hope you find all of your dreams and all that you deserve in D.C.

Sorry to hear that Sparky. Best of Luck........and I love Fredrick MD.

Used to live out in Sykesville MD, near Westminster.......many moons ago.

Sorry Sparky........That really sucks bad.............

Like Chuckus.....Skitten and I lived in Germantown MD a long time ago...........................

Damn Wizard and I might have been neighbors, so to speak and didn't know it?

Germantown, ahhhhhhhh yes.

Best of Luck Sparky, in all seriousness.

Hey Sparky...

What's your line of work if you don't mind me asking ?

good luck sparky and i hope you can turn this into a positive for some reason you seem like the sort of person that is good at turning bad into good

I'm really not doing the lemons/lemonade thing here, but getting new jobs in mid-age, with the kind of time you have to find them, is... could be... wildly freeing. You had enough time at your old jobs to know what you like and what you don't like, what you're good at and what you think sucks to have to do every days, and you know, both of you, what your dream jobs feel/taste/smell like. If you were still working at your old jobs, you would *not* think of quitting and reaching for that dream job, would you? No, of course not.

Now you can.

Maybe you could start your own company and be your own boss !

Damn, that sucks, Sparky. Realllllly sucks. Freedom is out of NYC. *shakes head and sighs*

I wish you and the Shebabe the absolute best of luck. I hope you find a place that makes you happy. If you leave NY, try not to miss the sheer convenience too much.

Sorry to hear about that Sparky. But it sounds like things will work out well. Having to change jobs/location and all that mid life will be a bit of an upheaval but I bet it all works out for the best...

sorry

to hear that.keep your head up and smile.it is a beautiful world.im going to be losing my job soon to.

luck to you sparky. why do companies insist on canning the best people.

... good luck to you both, darling ...

but you know it ain't so bad, now don't ya?

you have each other ... you have your family ...

hell ... you've got a severance package ... ;)

<hugs and kisses>

Attack of Sparkzilla!

Frederick? Really? I always thought that town was a little sleepy (yeah, yeah, I know Frostburg's there, but still). Then again, it might be interesting to unleash you on it's unsuspecting citizens. At least you picked the right side of the state. ;)

Good luck Spark, I know you'll land on your feet.

Cream rises to the top Sparkster, you guys will be ok. :)

Exactly! No matter where you go, it'll be a blast because you're there. Sometimes the worst things at the moment turn out to be some of the best in the future.

NYC will be losing a real character....

when you leave town. Good fortune to you wherever you go.

your pal,

blue

Do you really have full pay and benefits for 15 months? That's a great deal, if it wasn't a typo and meant to be 3 months.

If you do have that 15 month window, take a little time for yourself and enjoy your kids. I've always said if I ever end up unemployed again, I'm taking some time just for me before I go back to the daily grind.

And don't be afraid to ask for more vacation than the "standard" policy would grant you when you do find a job you want. Vacation is one of the easiest things to get when you're negotiating. Especially when you can say you've been in your career awhile and that you've become accustomed to the higher number of vacation weeks.

Good Luck!
