I'm curious as to where the line is with regards to the distinction between Non-Human and Bestiality. How non-human can something be before it is considered animal? I want to know so that I don't go too far with a story and have it rejected for this site -- and I'm also curious about people's opinions on the matter.
It seems that there is no problem with humanoid things -- aliens, vampires, robots, or "furry" style critters like humanoid dogs and cats and the like. What about fantasy creatures? Would a sex scene involving a talking, intelligent, animal (say, magical, or genetically altered by science) be considered over the top? Does it make any difference if the creature is definitely fantasy, like a unicorn?
Here's another possibility to mull over: suppose an interactive virtual reality creates a virtual animal partner, and a character has sex with it. Would that act be considered over the line, even though the animal is just a computer simulation? What if it is an extremely realistic robot? What if the robot was being remote-controlled by another human being?
I don't actually intend to write about most of the examples given above. I mostly want to get opinions and evoke thought. So, how can you skirt the issue of the extreme taboo of bestiality? How much can your story tease and dodge before you really break the taboo?
