Here I am, trying to download music for my students, and I get fucking infected with a virus. I can't even download the removal tool for it because for some reason, I haven't been able to download programs from the internet.

Please, please, please, if someone could download the removal program and send it to me, I would really appreciate it.

This is the site the removal program is at.
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/fixlove.exe.

I know it's a lot to ask someone to do, but if someone could PM me I'll give you my e-mail address to send it to.

I want to cry right now. :(

If I didn't get disconnected every 10 minutes, I would....

I still love you...

Downloading now, sweetie.

*pats shoulder* No worries... it'll be all better soon. ;)

Won't your virus scan remove it for you? Mine gives me the option to "clean" it or "delete" it.. doesn't yours?

Also, if I'm not mistaken, but if you can't download it from the net I don't think you could download it from an email either. Could you?

FG is right if you have a utilities program it may help to purge your sytem of the virus...try that first...good luck:)

Okay, you're way above my level of computer skills with downloading programs and emailing them. But I'd help you if I could- does that count? :)

PM me if you need me to help - if someone else is already helping you - great... *smile*

BTW - loveletter has been around for a while - Symantec and all the others have virus definitions that prevent you from getting it. If you're running a virus program and you have it do the live or regular updates, you should not have gotten infected?

If you're not running an anti-virus program then you absolutely have to get one immediately.

If the dat files are up to date.. it should clean it up. Your virus scan didn't pick it up when you downloaded it? Mine catches everything that tries to come in.

Thanks everyone.

Right now I'm running housecall, but I thought I needed the removal system afterwards.

Dilly, if I can't download programs off of the internet, how the hell am I supposed to get the updates off of them?
I use AVX live and Vcatch, but for some reason, they didn't catch it.

Oh, and for some reason, I can dl programs from e-mails, but not from the interent. When I wanted to dl Kazaa, I sent it to myself from my mom's computer.

My computer hates me. :(

Damn viruses. :( I am so glad thanks to Draco
and other great advice I got my system cleaned up. :)

Minxy,

How can you download songs and stuff from Kazaa and not be able to download programs and virus updates and such?

Something sounds seriously wrong with your computer:(

Norton System Works 2002 usually sells for between 70-100 dollars. It is SO worth the buy. Has good cleanup utilities, the optimizer is quick, and it fixes little problems with windows.

Good luck minx

I think some of the viruses now block you from directly downloading from symantec and cleaning up your system but don't keep you from downloading from other sites or other ways (like via email). The good news is you can get rid of that kind of virus too -- hang in there!

The only thing is.. you have to make sure Norton is compatable with your computer. I have an HP computer running McAfee virus scan and BlackIce Defender Firewall.. Norton is not compatable and made my computer have more problems..

I've heard bad things about Black Ice. It can actually LET people through instead of helping stop them.

I'm running a new HP as well. When Norton installs it asks you if you'd like to remove or disable the McAfee stuff. Personally, I'd take Norton over Mc. The Norton 2002 updates really easily, has a one click check up. Basically, the thing fuckin rawks.

I haven't had any problems with BlackIce.. and HP's webpage talks about not using Norton products.. It came with Mcaffee and so far I haven't had any viruses actually get on my computer. If one attempts it's stopped..

I don't want to have a pissing match over which is better. I know what I have works for me.. Norton Systemworks is a neat program... I didn't like what it did to my computer.. therefore I won't use it.. to each his own I say.

That looks like it was written by a third grader- you expect me to take advice from him?

Thanks for the advice, but I'm trying to figure out how to salvage my fucking harddrive now; I'll worry about protecting it in the future.

I hope no one takes anything I write personally, I'm just very frustrated right now.

You can never download programs off the net - or did this happen after you got the virus?

I can't imagine why you can't download... so I'm thinking you might actually need to do a system re-format and start from scratch to get everything working properly again.

With SystemWorks - the Symantec/Norton Product - you buy the CD - install it. It then queries the web server on a regular basis (at least once a week) and automatically downloads and installs the new virus definitions. That's the most important part. It can also download and install program updates.

The important thing is that unless you install new definitions at least once a week you really have no protection. You must use a program that has auto updates and you must find a way to get it to work on your system.

If you've got information on your hard drive that you need to salvage and you don't have anyone around who knows how to do it safely (because you don't want to copy the virus as well) - you might need to bring it into a computer shop. Tell them the problem. They might be able to salvage your info and rebuild your hard drive.

I haven't been able to download programs off the net for a while now, and when I scan with housecall (before tonight), there were no viruses found.
When I try to dl from the net, it tells me that I'm missing some Quicktime software that's not available on their website. I didn't always have this problem,- it jsut happened one day.

I just want the infected files off of my computer. If I have to junk the harddrive, I have to junk it. I'm so fucking annoyed right now that I don't give a fuck anymore. My computer is a POS. All of my pictures and documents are infected anyway.

Quicktime should have nothing to do with it at all. Sounds like you've got some messed up program and extension associations - which also could have been caused by a Virus.

If the copy of housecall you're using hasn't been updated in months its not out of the question that your computer has more than just a couple viruses. And scanning with a program that hasn't been updated won't catch the viruses that came out after you got the program.

Again - if you don't have a computer savvy friend, and the files are important to you - you might consider taking it to a local computer place. Its possible that your pics and docs could be recovered and the virus removed.

That's the weird thing though- I can go to the housecall website and do a scan right from there. I'm doing it now. So far the files that are fucked up are ones that I don't think I need. I jsut don't want this virus fucking up any more files.
