Future FAWC

Sorry, i've been trying to work it out from the replies, i've googled it etc but I have to ask.

I have no idea what a FAWC is

Taken from this thread:

I wanted to see if there was enough interest first. They will post under Chain Stories. This is from a previous FAWC thread:

For anyone who does not know, FAWC stands for Friendly Anonymous Writing Challenge. The idea is for writers to come up with an original erotic story based around a similar theme. Those stories are then posted under this user name (thus the "anonymous" part) and a winner (for lack of a better term -- this is just a friendly competition, after all) is chosen according to the standard Lit voting system. There are no real prizes given for FAWC.

I'm open to ideas for a topic yet.

To elaborate on Lynn's answer, for those who aren't familiar ... the FAWC challenge worked like this:

Slyc would put out a theme, and everyone who wanted to participate would write a story. There were 5 FAWCs (Friendly, Anonymous Writing Challenges). FAWC #1, write a story about an author where what the author is writing about somehow comes true. FAWC #2 we all got four words from several different categories and had to incorporate them into our story. I got vehicle, sports, affectation and jealousy, I think. FAWC #3 we all wrote using the same photograph for inspiration. FAWC #4 we all had to use the same opening sentence. FAWC #5 we chose from several different songs/song lyrics that Slyc provided.

Then we would send our stories to Slyc, he posted them under Chain Stories with Laurel's help. The author on all the stories was listed as FAWCer so that no one would know who wrote which story. The fun part was discussing the stories with no bias because we didn't know who wrote what, and in guessing the author's of the stories.

The winner (by regular Lit scores) received an animated trophy and all of our respect and admiration.

It was such fun, and the FAWC stories I wrote are some of my best.

It was a lot of work for Slyc, but he got such enjoyment out of it, as did all of the participants.

Thanks for adding this. I've been multi-tasking . . . writing for NaNo, gathering information from conversations I had with slyc, and informing Laurel of the challenge . . . all without sleep last night.

I have had another good idea  We could all write a Loving Wife story :D. There could be three winners: the one with the highest score, the one with the lowest score and the one with the most vitriolic comment.

Thanks for sharing an idea.

Slyc and I talked about that before. He thought using the Loving Wives category would put off the majority of potential participants.

If it's Loving Wives, I'm in...maybe. Put me down as a maybe. If there's going to be a word limit on loving wives though... ;)

One more detail: after the FAWCing was over

Sorry, i've been trying to work it out from the replies, i've googled it etc but I have to ask.

One more detail, if it's of concern to anyone. After the contests were over, the authors could choose to leave the stories in Chain Stories but under the author's own name (Slyc took care of that with help from Laurel), or Slyc would delete the story and the author could choose to repost it, as it stood or after changing it, under a different category.

Thanks for the explanations everyone

I didn't know Slyc so I feel its not right for me to get involved but it seems like a lovely tribute. its clear he was well loved by a lot of the people here

Slyc would have welcomed you with open arms. He was that kind of guy. He made all, newcomers and old hands alike, feel at home.

I'll work on getting this started but I'm in the middle of a nasty storm. Power outages are expected from the winds gusting over 60 mph. Rain for the next two days.

Anyone else in the path . . . be safe. :rose:

Good idea, Especially since I have a few completed things ready to go into the pipeline.:D

suggestion

I have a suggestion for your consideration. Since the FAWC stories have always been in the Chain Stories hub, what if the theme, no matter what category they do go in, is a chain reaction. Sort of a literary Rube Goldberg machine. A series of events leading to an erotic climax, pardon the pun.

That's interesting, I like it.

My victory is assured.

In a sense, shouldn't/aren't all stories this?

Thanks for this, Lynn. I think the responses seem to show that as many people are interested as would be put off? Maybe this could be a later FAWC if you would be willing to continue them after this one? I was serious about it, I would actually like to give this a go. Although I would prefer to do the four free words, TBH.

There are often threads where people ask about a quite mild mean comment by Anonymous on their story. Diving into Loving Wives - hopefully with support from LW afficionados (I mean that in the fictional sense!) might toughen us all up a bit.

Speaking personally, it's a category that does intrigue me although I have never posted there before. I think there could be a lot of fascinating discussion about the motivations of readers generated by a Loving Wife FAWC.

Anyway - great idea to do a FAWC, lots of interesting posts already.

Take care in the storm!

Do you mean a regular chain story? If we try to write one chapter after another, we might lose the anonymity? It will be quite complicated trying to get an earlier chapter up then make sure the next person reads and submits the next chapter in good time. Poor Lynn! :( It's going to be a lot of hard work doing the FAWC anyway. Maybe we should talk that over for a later FAWC?

I hope you will be in the FAWC whatever - your Curse of the Bitch is still one of my favourites.

Youre not kissing my ass as the new rule requires! If offensive reader comments are the goal no one can beat me. Ditto low scores. Its over before it starts, Send me my trophy.

I respect doing a FAWC ASAP in honor of Slyc, and please feel free to correct me, but didn't he try to sneak in FAWC competitions in the gaps between Lit contests?

Thank you all for your interest in FAWC6. I appreciate the suggestions and will keep them for the future. Also, I realize slyc planned the challenges between contests but this is a special FAWC. Therefore, this challenge isn't complicated.

  • Choose one of the following letters: S L Y C
  • Don't tell anyone what letter you decide to use.
  • Send me a PM with "I'm in FAWC6" as the subject line. Tell me which letter you want and I will give you a list of four words. You must use all four of those items in your story.

That's it.

Challenge begins After you receive your list

Challenge ends 11:59pm EST Dec. 5, 2015

Winner announced Dec. 11, 2015

I'll post submission details soon. This schedule should allow time for anyone to participate in both the holiday contest and FAWC6.

Good point.....I'm not even sure what I had in mind. Depression and sleep deprivation and all.

I wonder... there have been several books with specific themes along these lines - below is the one whose title I remember. Is this sort of what you had in mind?

A Coin in Nine Hands, by Marguerite Yourcenar- During the space of a day in Rome in 1933, a ten-lira coin passes through the hands of nine people-including an aging artist, a prostitute, and a would-be assassin of Mussolini. The coin becomes the symbol of contact between human beings, each lost in private passions and nearly impenetrable solitude.

We may be able to keep that depression under control... though not the sleep deprivation part. Unless we bore you to sleep. :D
