I’m wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a FAWC in memory of slyc? He believed FAWC would continue to grow. Because I helped on a previous challenge, I have access to the FAWC e-mail and Lit account. If no one objects, I’ll lead.

So post your thoughts on doing another challenge. Remember to respect others and keep the thread on topic.

Yes, definitely - I was thinking the same. It brought people together. It would be lovely for you to lead.

I haven't thought hard about it, but internet friends and friendships comes to mind in relation to Slyc. I didn't know him well at all, but he certainly had a knack for bringing people together. I also know he had a longstanding interest in sci fi - that might be a fun challenge as well.

I'm all for it. Perhaps to help it along, we could set a word limit -- I know people are busy with the current winter holiday contest, and soon enough the winter holidays will be upon us. OTOH, sometimes it's hard to keep a good story down. :)

Sci-Fi as a category works for me, if we want to make that the theme.

I did think about the holidays. People will be busy. I think setting a maximum word count would help.

Naoko and I were just talking about discussing this with you! I thought I remembered you saying you had access the the FAWC account.

I think it's a fantastic idea. I love participating in the FAWC contests. I got so many great ideas from every single one of them.

Acronyms are very common in this forum (and one of my pet peeves in English righting).

What is FAWC?

Friendly Authors Writing Contest if I remember correctly. A bit of a play on words, acronymwise.

From a previous challenge:

For those who are not familiar with this, FAWC stands for Friendly Anonymous Writing Challenge, and is open to any and all participants. This is a chance to show off your skills and push your writing abilities in directions you may not have considered before.

For the benefit of us dinosaurs, do you want to give a quick outline of the rules or whatever? Will I need to buy a new cartridge for my ancient Waterman fountain pen? :)

I wanted to see if there was enough interest first. They will post under Chain Stories. This is from a previous FAWC thread:

For anyone who does not know, FAWC stands for Friendly Anonymous Writing Challenge. The idea is for writers to come up with an original erotic story based around a similar theme. Those stories are then posted under this user name (thus the "anonymous" part) and a winner (for lack of a better term -- this is just a friendly competition, after all) is chosen according to the standard Lit voting system. There are no real prizes given for FAWC.

I'm open to ideas for a topic yet.

As with all the previous FAWKs, I'll look in and see if I'm inspired. Trying to commit to something before I already have a story congealing is just setting myself up for frustration.

I don't have the level of inspiration and creativity I had back in the day when I could think about something long enough, and a story would come to me.

I will take part.

Many of us produced some of our best story ideas through the FAWCs. I was saying a little while ago how much I owe to FAWCs for helping me develop my writing: e.g., the four words freebie competition really made me focus on use of colour in my writing. (Even though I had to spell it 'color' in my story not to give away who I was :) )

Shea and I were going to PM you, Lynn, and Laurel to ask about continuing the competitions in slyc's memory. I will definitely take part, and if you would like any help, let me know. (My personal favourite was the four free words challenge - if I can put in a vote for re-doing that one.)

I hope we do FAWCs regularly, not just once. It would be good to remember slyc particularly because he was a great contributor to the Authors' Hangout.

slyc_willie gave of his own time freely to set up competitions and encourage us in erotic writing. If anyone posted a thread discussing writing matters, he would go in and take part. He chatted, supported people with advice when we were troubled, brought his own problems to ask for support - and he talked about writing. People like him make this a place which is not just fun to come to, which encourages us in our writing. He was a good example to us all; when things are difficult on here, there is a temptation to pitch in to some argument going on or someone is saying something provocative to us just for the sake of it, I hope we can remember how slyc would not bother with it. How he came here to be friends and talk about writing.

FYI: I updated the first post to include the names of those participating and possible themes. Let me know if I missed anyone . . .

That sounds like fun! I'd like to join if I can get my Holiday story(s) completed. When does it look like this will begin?

Timing is everything, of course. Still, FAWC #1 was my first win on this site and one that remains special to me. I'll do all I can to participate, though I'm only a maybe contestant.

Oh yeah, I just did one...forgot the anonymous submission and guessing who part.

I like the idea very much. Now to see how the time, NANO, and some personal things play out.

I realize the timing isn't the best, but if this FAWC is in his memory, it should be done now, as a thank you for his presence in our lives . . . :rose:

Sorry, i've been trying to work it out from the replies, i've googled it etc but I have to ask.

I have no idea what a FAWC is
