Funny or Offensive?

I think his opponent should interview my Chinese wife.

She could articulate her position quite well in one of four languages, including English. As an economist specializing in corporate risk management, she'd likely praise the PRC's economy for proping up the rest-of-the-world's.

hahahah!!! They propped up the rest of the world on the backs of slave labor and currency manipulation. If your wife expresses praise for that, she's seriously lacking a moral foundation.

Chinese workers are actually better compensated now than at any point in their 5,000 plus year history.

You can't forget it's a history of mostly dynastic feudalism or strict state owned economy (1949-91) under which these people lived.

Today, there is a growing middle class and an extraordinary amount of wealthy people. The economy is booming and ALL are benefiting.

As for "moral foundation", your point is lost on me given the realities of the above.

The ad's not even funny.

Just more attempts at manufacturing outrage from a washed up old man.

You see it every day here on lit.

If it's such a paradise, I assume the government that brought it about will be eager to have its legitimacy ratified by its citizens, right? (You don't have to answer.)

Leaving aside the point the ad was trying to make, which is ridiculous, its racism speaks for itself.

I did nost use the word paradise nor offer anything that should be construed as such.

I was simply commenting on the economic situation in modern China versus that of it's historical past.

I did not offer any political assessment. The PRC is not a democratic nation.

Since I am married to a Chinese woman, it's unlikely you would find me disagreeing about the racial intent of the ad itself.

Of course it is racist. It's from a Republican isn't it?

Cue: Perg to come in here to claim I am a single issue race obessed harpie.

You're female?

I was actually just reading your posts in BG's thread and cracking up at Godzilla thing.

It's the people who brought you Detroit and Flint. What do you expect?
And his reasoning for the ad is way funnier and more offensive than the ad itself.

I wondered where you got all that fancy book learning

I made all that up. I gave my old Playboys to my first wife's father.

What's funny is that after that marriage ended and I was in a new relationship, my GF would open them before I did and look at all the pictures, saying shit like "That is NOT a garment." She was kidding, sort of making fun of herself for having a master's degree in feminist theory, but she still looked at every picture.

I'd flip to the jokes and then the table of contents, hoping for new fiction by great writers, which was usually in there.

The 1st time one of my male friends showed me a playboy
I flipped through and compared all the women to people we knew
"She looks a little like your sister" "Shes got Mrs Gavens nose"

Apparently, it "ruins" the allure, when you do that :p

Your friend must have been repressed or like 12 years old or something. Playboy is so tame and silly.

For a while there people were writing in with stories about being told they couldn't read it on airplanes. The editors contacted every major airline and asked for policy statements. They're actually a very strong voice for women's rights and free speech.
