This shit is kinda out of control, went to the store this morning and the place is fucking packed. You'd think Godzilla was on his way to town and the only way you could appease him (her? There is some controversy on that) was by handling its shopping for it.

I find it hilarious that so many people, including LeJackass are admitting to not having TP for a while. Must be people who live in single person households. That's one of those Costco items. I'm good through June unless someone gets sick and I don't wait until I'm out to restock. That's sort of beside the point, I'm gonna make two points at once here. The first is the power and responsibility of the individual to care for themselves and the second is the power and responsibility (for a lack of better terms) to educate the public because if nothing else history has proven the average person is stupid. There does come a certain point, I'd say around 40% of any given population where if a given problem afflicts that many people and CAN be averted by government a cost analysis must be made to see if its time to step in. Doesn't matter if they could or should solve the problem on their own. They AREN'T. Same with any given conflict for shits and giggles Hatfields and McCoys. At what point does it stop mattering who started it and start mattering who finishes it?

To the first point why the fuck do you, yes (most of) you not have ten or more gallons of water in or around the house. Don't tell me you don't have room for storage container or two in a closet, on the back lawn, somewhere to stash water. Granola bars, canned goods. Ideally food that can be eaten as is but charcoal (depending on where you live) and a BBQ are a nice addition to have available. The Corona Virus is a large scale example of it but every year we hear about Hurricane Xena is about to ayayayayaya hiya! through your town and everybody is rushing Walmart for water and essentials. You knew this fucking chakram of wind was coming two years ago. Same goes for you North Eastern bastards who don't seem to have supplies even though you know good and damn well you're getting snowed in. You might luck out like this year but it happens frequently enough. I guess we won't know for sure until the next big one but everybody I know in CA is prepped and we get hit once every few decades FFS we have an excuse for getting lax.

So go prep your shit and take good inventory because you should hypothetically be able to hold out for two or more weeks without water, gas or electricity. You might not be loving it but you should be prepped. And obviously adjust as necessary to your region. I'd have a goddamn inflatable raft if I lived in certain areas of the south, and certainly thermal blankets in the north. I'm in CA, we need fucking sun screen.

Take care of your damn self.

On the government side as I mentioned above we see this every year in various regions of the country. I get that smoking kills more people than hurricanes but if we can spend billions on anti-smoking today, anti-drugs in the 90's, half of us only know who Allan Burr was because of a massive campaign is it really going to kill us if we start dropping Be Prepared ads on tv? When I was a kid Garfield, the Muppet Babies, the Chipmunks, Ducktales and a few others teamed up to keep me off drugs. (The drugs someone had to be on to see Garfield and Michelangelo fighting over lasagna must have been truly intense btw) Is Wreck it Ralph and Shrek telling you to make sure you have supplies really going to indoctrinate you beyond any hope of freedom? CW seems to have time for the Flash crew to speak out against vaping, is having the Crisis Team make a "We can't always be there for you, you are the first line of defense" really any worse than telling them not to vape?

Get your shit together people both at the individual and government level.

I went to Sam's Club this morning around 11. My concern is the restock, if and when it happens. They still had plenty of gallon tubs of mayonnaise though. Must not be a hot doomsday item. :)

For a couple of days in the States, people have been officially told to have two weeks of supplies on hand. Some of the current buying is people making sure of that (and probably doubling it). Beyond that, yes, it's just knee-jerk panic response. The degree of panic response in the States, though, is closely connected to the lack of believable information/protection/help from those at the national level responsible for containing panic. If you are panicked because your government is a total loss on help, you have every reason to be panicked.

(That said, I see evidence of the federal government belatedly (criminally belatedly) becoming more helpful--which, however, would go hand in hand with Trump moving the hell of the way out of the way.)

So...you depend on the government to tell you when to wipe your butt. Got it. :)

The TP is a control issue. They cant do shit about the virus...but I can wipe my butt and no one will stop me attitude. Unless you die, you will use it up. I mean...does TP ever go bad?

My point, which I may have failed to adequately express, is that you should have already had this. Forget the TP and again lets rewind to the last Hurricane. Why are stores being wiped out as if you didn't have a hurricane the year before, and two the year before that. I'm not out their shopping (for this kinda stuff, I went out for bagels) because the stuff in my Earthquake Kit IS two weeks (more if I ration) of supplies. Why don't people in Florida have Hurricane kits FFS.

As for the government telling them to be prepared, why not pick some rando day and make it an annual ritual to make sure your family is taken care of? We can manage national pizza day, talk like a pirate day but not check your shit day? I mean nobody gives a shit about the first two but paying The Rock to make a commercial is a one time fee of a few million at most not the billions that are spent on anything else so the cost to the tax payer is negligible. And most likely offset by lesser dependence on FEMA later this year or next. Take your bets on hurricane, tornado, or snow storm.

A 25# bag of rice selling for $18 last week is up to $80 on Amazon...ca-ching! :)

given the way the way people shop for the thanksgiving/xmas/new year period, we shouldn't be surprised

Well, because the United States isn't that regimented and doesn't really want to be. We have always been an open, "don't tell me what to do" society. Crises such as this do remind us to think of these things ourselves and plan accordingly. For example, my family was living in Germany during the 1956 Soviet invasion of Hungary--and we were told that very likely the Russians weren't going to be stopping at the Hungarian border in their advance. At that time we were told never to let the gas tanks in our cars go below half full. Since then, I never have, and there have been times when that was a good practice to maintain.

I worked on terrorism for a good long time. We knew the United States was living on borrowed time up to 9/11. George Bush (the lesser) had one very true statement: in preventing terrorism, we had to get it right every time; the terrorists only had to get it right once. Even knowing we were in a daily struggle to protect Americans, the only safer bet on what to do was draconian safety measures that would change American open society forever. We opted to fight it behind the scenes for as long as possible. And, sure enough, after 9/11 Americans lost a lot of what had been the American way of life up until that time (e.g., flight safety standards).

Schools are closed. Masses are cancelled. Stores are bare and now it's fucking hailing. Jesus take the wheel.

not sure he's gonna be able to help but whatever helps you keep your head on straight

We have anti-terrorist drills, replacing fire drills (or in CA Quake drills) replacing nuke drills (as if your desk would do shit) I don't see how this is any more extreme than that.

I see much of your point but I don't think that stuff is too hard to fix. I think you get the Avengers doing PSAs and it changes pretty much over night. Then it stops being the government and starts being Little Jimmy not wanting to dissapoint Captain America.

I have 8 rolls of TP. It could be an issue if people don't stop the hoarding.

I have that...maybe a couple more...but I live w 2 girls. Jesus fucking christ...a roll lasts me a month. With them? A roll every other day

Have you stopped to think that maybe he is, and this is it?

I had a Kenneth Copeland type minister dripping all over FB last night about prayers being the answer to what we're experiencing. When I suggested that he consider that what we're experiencing might actually be a comment by God, he shut up and went away.

Don't we now all wish for those bidets...

btw It's kind of funny that Rob calls Asian muslims 'stinky pakis'
when their standards of cleanlinness are in fact higher than ours.

Knowledge and skills are worth more than any pile of stuff. Some examples:

Before you need more TP, gather various leaves. Rub each type of leaf on skin, and remember, note, or label which skin spot for each leaf. The spots that don't have rashes or irritation show what leaves are your TP. Squat if you are able, or put your feet up on a stool or step while sitting for cleaner and easier ejection. Doing that outside over a hole in the ground saves water.

F I'm also confused as to why Corona can affect the power and water supplies. But I'm in Canada, so there's a lot I don't know.

Yeah, this one threw me. I've seen CDC advisories to stock up on water. Happily, my county broadcast a statement yesterday saying the virus has no connection with our water supply.

I pay attention to any water supply connections because I've lived extensively in countries where you couldn't use the local water in the best of times.

Panic-demic VS Pandemic

The Coronavirus is a pandemic by definition. However, it is also what I would call a panic-demic. The fake news media has fanned the flames of fear into the trembling hearts of the little minds they control. The reality is that while the virus should be taken seriously it is less of a risk to life and health than many of the strains of flu that sweep through from China every year.

The fake news are clearly hoping that they can somehow blame Trump and that might effect the election. Just as the fake Russia hoax was used to stop him from getting elected and then when that failed it was hope it would get him tossed out of office.

All of it backfires. But meanwhile the hassle and serious problems the libtards are stirring up is disgusting. Fear mongers are swamp creatures.

Shelly reveals "her"self as an idiot just by invoking the "fake media" crap. No need to read "her" any further.

Anytime you see a reference of "fake news" offered as a serious belief, you're only in good company if you are a Trumper. If so, fine for you. I see it as a reason to read no further.
