I'm in the central Sierra Nevadas between Reno and Sacramento. Our area has no history of quake damage. But we just had one -- oh fuck, there's another -- the place was shaking and rattling for almost a minute each time. That means a 7.5 or 8.0 and aftershock, either from the SF Bay Area or around June Lake. Stay tuned for damage reports.

USGS reports the quakes as only a 5.8 and 5.7, happening about 80 miles east of here, at about 19 miles depth. Damn, everything in our modular house was shaking! Hey, I've lived in California for most of my 67 years, I'm no novice to quakes, but this was pretty exciting. Were these foreshocks? It's now 1 AM here, oh-dark-hundred, and sub-freezing outside. I'm glad we're not evacuating.

Just had another strong shock a couple of minutes ago. We'll definitely have to check the house exterior for cracks and other damage in the morning.

Two quakes can border with Nevada. One big one in chili.

USGS now shows a slew of 5.5-5.8 quakes about 80 miles from us at various depths, and swarms of minor quakes throughout Nevada east of the central Sierra Nevadas. This is today's planetary seismic hotspot. In case anyone is interested, the epicenter is about 15 miles from Hawthorne NV -- which hosts a major military ammo depot. Toxins, high explosives, and nukes are reportedly stored there. But don't worry. There's nothing to worry about. Move along.

ENE of Bridgeport Cali. seems to be experiencing a series of approx. 3.0+ quakes.

ENE of Bridgeport CA and WSW of Hawthorne NV are the same neighborhood That epicenter is maybe 40 miles north of the June Lake caldera where an eruption is expected Any Time Now (geologically speaking). I also see minor quakes spread throughout the area from NE to SE of there: Fallon (Blue Angels home) to Tonopah (above Area 51) to Pahrump (Art Bell territory). Conspiracy theorists should be drooling over this.

I have a free app from the Windows Store called Earthquake Scan. I swear Cali is constantly shivering and twitching. Lots of 1.0+, almost constant from list in app. Maybe better that it constantly slips and slides. One day it may hang up for a week or two then it's 'Welcome to the Island of Los Angeles'.

Same with Alaska.

Eastern Pacific doesn't seem to twitch and tremble as continuously. They get 4.0-5.0. Although not as frequent.

I lurve a good quake. Nothing like a disturbance in plate tectonics to get the heart racing and remind you that the planet's the boss...

Until wayward meteors or something remind the planet who's boss.

But I digress. Quakes are fun.

As long as no one gets hurt, mind you. That just takes the fun right out of it.

I've missed most of the California majors in my 67-year lifetime although my military medic team rehearsed for such botherances. I was elsewhere for the L.A. area quakes. I sat atop a solid rockpile during the S.F. quakes, hardly noticed them. We ran from one quake with shaking plate glass windows in the Delta, and stood through this most recent booger with rattling housewares and falling icicles. I might not even notice if the local supervolcano blows. Yawn.

My brother would go on business to Cali. First time in L.A. had nose bleeds for 3 days from the smog. Was 3 stories underground for the '89 quake in Oakland. He was not a huge fan of going to Cali.

I was going to ask Northern Acres, but you relocated your location.

Having not dealt with a tsunami, but everything else by now... your first general reaction is to say, well, what do we do, even in my direct unhappy case, mass bushfires, I know that noone knew better than me. The tornado I had, I enjoyed, cause I got told it was minor, alls good, and given the half time break they have, really got to see it. Wouldnt drive into one, but still.

Not quakes. Nuke tests.

If nuclear war and super volcano eruptions are some of the biggest risk for human species extinction, might as well live near a super volcano and a nuke dump. Don't have to worry about the long slow death from starvation.
