I previously had the first 5 chapters of my story "A Controlled Life" here on literotica. They were all rated pretty good and several people had added them to their favorites. I was foolish enough to have them removed from here and other sites so I could enroll them in the Kindle Select program for 90 days.

Now that the period of exclusivity is over I have tried to have them added back onto the site. I tried at first to enter all 12 chapters (where the book was up to at the time) here only to have it denied due to the fact that some of the chapters list websites. Okay, fine...I can respect that; so I then tried to upload them after removing the .com from the stories and it was denied again for the same reason. So I decided that I would just post the first five chapters that had already been here and that I had gotten good reviews on. Well, today I was surprised to find out that again it was denied; only this time it was due to punctuation.

Have the standards of the site gone up that much in the last 90 days since my story was originally posted; or do different reviewers here have totally different standards for what is acceptable? I am more than a little frustrated and am not sure if I want to go through the hassle of trying again. Nothing has changed between now and when they were first posted on here. I know it is not the case; but I almost feel like I am being denied now as a punishment for having the story pulled from the site previously.

Has any one else encountered a similar situation here?

Gosh, that does sound harsh.

I think different reviewers do approach differently (actually I think there are only two, although wiser heads than I will know). I have had a chapter accepted with a formatting problem then the next one rejected even though it had the same problem. The site isn't mechanical and I think Lauren and Manu do work really hard, they churn the stories through at a tremendous rate.

I think you should definitely keep trying. I am very surprised by the punctuation thing, I must say.

Kindle select, huh? I have heard bad things about it from elsewhere!

PS I see you don't usually post here so you should be warned, if anyone posts weird in your thread, it's nothing to do with you! Most intelligent trolls evah! Love them, make them breakfast in the SPAM threads. Will do so for you too if at all encouraged.

:rose:

I dont have that problem. 3 outta 18 failed when I used an odd format for dialogue, which I corrected and they were approved. Punctuation is simple to master.

Naoko,

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't trying to sound harsh...sorry if it came across that way. I just don't understand why the exact same chapters were accepted a few months ago...and now they are not. The punctuation and everything else is as it was originally. None of that has changed. I think that the reviewers do an incredible job here and I know that they are swamped all of the time. They probably got tired of seeing my story for the 4th time in the last couple of weeks and maybe it all just ran together.

The Kindle Select thing was really a bad idea. I did not have a single book checked out during that time. I did give a lot away during the free promotions but it didn't really generate any additional sales.

And thanks for the warning about the trolls. That was my first post here and I'm familiar with their tactics on other sites. I can't imagine that here would be any different.

Sorry you're having trouble. The best thing to do is probably to send a PM to Laurel and explain what's going on. The site doesn't allow URLs and email addresses in stories, to my knowledge, or they might under certain circumstances.

As for the punctuation, that is odd if it hasn't changed. I've seen stories on here that go begging for punctuation.

But again, the best thing to do is send Laurel a PM and/or resubmit with a note in the notes field explaining why it was rejected, that this is the same as it was before, etc. Laurel is generally pretty responsive to that kind of thing, from what I hear.

Pasting the message you received from the reviewer would help. There is a track record on these kind of threads of the poster misunderstanding the rejection reason.

No no, if it was the punctuation that would be mean. PennLady is right, try PMing Laurel. And Iconoclastic is right, too, post the rejection notice. In the heat of the moment, I too have gone: WTF!!! You REJECTED my work of genius???? You morons! ... oh, I just need to fix a small thing, OK then. But don't think you can do it to me again!

I heard that Kindle Select is not a Good Thing - sorry you had that experience.

Well, I've not been on many other sites but if the trolls there are anything like these I must do more! On here they're a toot, and quite hard to recognise as they often start off sounding reasonable and supportive and then suddenly you realise your hand is in their mouth and their great big googly eyes are sparkling with delight. So if that happens, just go: Ooops! My bad! Can I have my hand back please? and they will probably let you get away. ROFL. If a fight starts, join the rest of us in the South Stand and pass the popcorn to the left. ;)

There's only one submissions editor here--Laurel. And she can't read all of the stories submitted very closely. So she either saw something this time she didn't see first time or she's getting more restrictive. Nothing official has been posted about the latter, though.
