My father taught me to like fruitcake when I was just a kid. The rest of my family and very few of my friends like it; I really don't know why not...

How about you?

I love fruitcake myself. I never got the reason why it is disliked so intensely.

Fruitcake is disliked?

When did that happen..... I love it myself.

Why? Because fruitcake is a brick of strange clay with chewy plastic-y bits scattered throughout.

I don't care who makes it.....

I've tried many different kinds of fruitcake and still think EWWW!

Maybe I haven't tasted the right fruitcake yet?

I like fruitcakes----the hole in the middle is just the right size for my love muscle..

Hee haw, hee haw

The One Fruitcake Theory

I theorized in my younger days that there was only one fruitcake in existence, and since its initial baking, it's been passed around from house to house every year by people who wouldn't eat that brick o'crap if you paid them. Hell, it passed through my house at least twice when I was a kid.

It's really edible? I never knew! :D

Fruitcake was developed during the above ground nuclear testing in the 40's and 50's. It also coincided with the introduction of play-doh, and silly putty. A chance occurence, or alien influence?
Anyway, it makes a great doorstop!:D

In my family this is true. We have one fruitcake, the SAME fruitcake, which is passed around as a family joke. My aunt made it like 15 years ago, and after 3 years of passing it on and freezing it til the next year, we shellacked it and made a ritual out of it. :)

Remind me at Xmas...dont eat the xmas cake...

an aside..i like fruit cake..my dear old mom makes one with about half a bottle of sherry..and the other half goes in the trifle...woohoo...plastered at xmas dinner
(trifle=sponge cake and custard..with lots of sherry...)

Fruitcake was, and still is used as a punishment in my family. There has been this loaf floating around my family for as long as I can remember, and if there's a relitive that your really pissed off at, they'll be getting the fruitcake for christmass.

Great fruitcake

My parent's order a fruitcake each Christmas from a bakery in Texas. I don't know the name of the bakery, but they send fruitcakes all over the world and they are great...

I get my Dad one every year from there. He swears it's the best he's ever had. I just take his word for it.

Thanks, that's the place and I agree with your Dad....you should try it, they are great, much better than the ones you buy at a supermarket.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwww.......I hate fruit cake! I have however had one that was at least edible, not good just edible. It was made with grahm cracker crumbs and cherries, not sure what else was in it, but I could at least manage to eat it.

People who don't like fruitcake

are invited to move over to the "People who won't try oral sex" thread. :p

You'll feel right at home. If you don't like it you've either succumbed to the bad press or never had it made properly.

i love eating fruitcake

unfortunately, i am the only one here that likes it. i prefer home made to the store bought stuff so it has been a long long time since i have had any.

it wouldnt be Christmas season without it, but i have adjusted.;)

I totally agree! I LOVE fruitcake, plus I work with a lot of fruitcakes and have learned to like them as well as the dessert mentioned!! It is unamerican not to like fruitcake! ~laughing~

i used to like going to wedding receptions just to get a slice of the cake.
