The Dreadful Internet Troll
The Internet 'troll' can be defined as a person who takes great pleasure in sowing the seeds of discord whereever he/she wanders. He ( according to some vague statistic though the troll is most often a 'he' ) attempts to start or incite arguements for the explicit purpose of upsetting people. ( That makes any average person a 'troll' in my book but I suppose we're supposed to be seeing extremes here ).
The troll ( do you see a fisherman here? I don't, I SEE that little guy under the bridge waiting for the poor naive billy goat..) considers the Internet to be a venue-a far too convenient one-for their irritating game. ( experiment?) Appearantly being as heartless as they are they are incapable of understanding they are hurting someone ( as if of course they can, when it's fully up to us to decide to accept or ignore things in print.) who is human.
The definition goes on to explain that trolls consider other users of the Internet as not quite human ( like this doesn't happen daily in society? )
Supposedly the troll is only content once a certain amount of disention has been achieved, this measured of course by the amount of suffering visably caused. ( ha! no reaction and that would in theory thwart the troll wouldn't it, oh that's just too simple. )
The Internet so it is stated is the perfect breeding ground for 'trolls' due to its anonymity. Yes well even I'd have to agree that anonymity makes it possible to say anything without being responsible ( and we wonder why the net is so popular?? I digress.. )
That said it is of critical importance to now state that according to theory it is utterly impossible to CHANGE a TROLL because they ARE IMPERVIOUS to any type of criticism ( sounds like most I know, how about you? ) Trolls cannot be reasoned with ( as if reason ever enters the equation ) because they are not bound by rules of courtesy.. ( it just gets better doesn't it? ) or any type of social responsibility.
So why of course is any of this important you ask? Well think back to that part where the troll is said to cause havoc ( havoc-see that little red panic button flash? ) People get upset and as we well know, upset people are apt to do all kinds of bizzare things ( it's a human thing ), and of course these bizzare things are potentially dangerous to any homogenous system ( equilibrium of course ) thus creating a paranoid environment. ( as if we really need any help with that when most of us are a walking case of some neurosis or another )
Ah so of course what is one to do when they're forced to have their picnic with the ants? Step on them. Simple right? Sure, but.. what are the odds more ants will replace them, and so on ( oh I'm betting high, ever watched an ant hill? )
One is not entirely without recourse though ( well not if one is adaptable and that is of course a debatable thing.. but again I digress ) ..ANY 'victim' ( or self professed victim, as this case might be ) has the ability at all times to do the one thing a troll cannot stand and that is ignore him. Finis, finale, closing curtain, conclusion, stopping point..
(what retaliation can he/she/it/we inflict on dead air?)
but but but...
You know how it is.. almost everyone is determined to have that last word.
You know the one ( well two ) - I win.
You lose.
Indeed. Very similar to kids on a playground yelling
is not! is to! is not! is to! is not!
ad nauseam ad nauseam ad nauseam ad nauseam.....ad nauseam
so on the circle goes and I'd be more than willing to bet trolls won't be disappearing anytime soon..
Question is.. exactly who ARE the trolls... any thoughts?
....
