Leonard Nimoy, best known for his portrayal of Spock on Star Trek, turned 80 today. He received well wishes from NASA and his Star Trek co-star George Takei on Twitter.

Nimoy’s 50-year acting career is still going strong, with a recent guest appearance on the television thriller “Fringe.” He also regularly attends conventions and events.

"Earlier this week it was @WilliamShatner's birthday," NASA wrote. "Let's give the bridge equal billing and wish happy birthday to @TheRealNimoy LLAP!"

NASA joined the throngs of fans wishing "Star Trek" actor William Shatner a happy 80th birthday today (March 22) in the form of an online note to TV's original Capt. James T. Kirk.

"We want to wish happy birthday to @WilliamShatner -- someone who continues to boldly go!" NASA told Shatner via Twitter, where the space agency posts updates as @NASA.
