Many of you know of my love of rugby and the sadness that it brought me when Nick Duncombe passed away. I thank all of you for the support you gave me then and ask you to forgive me for this:

England 15 - New Zealand 13.

Goddamn I feel good! I know none of you care, but at the moment I don't care that you don't care.

Sorry,

The Earl

I care but ...

... a Morris Dance isn't as cool as a Haka.

I can remember when beating NZ at rugby was impossible. Now it is just difficult.

Og

Earl,
We're happy only if you're happy. Of course we care, silly man. Glad to see you're feeling good.

Wicked:kiss:

I'm happy for you too, dearest, and I have to admit I just love those little Rugbies (but I don't collect them).

Smooches of congratulatiios, Pear

<shoots earl in the head, and then herself. that's what america has bred me to do.>

First time in New Zealand for 30 years

It is the first time in 30 years that England has beat NZ at rugby in New Zealand.

One man scored all the points for England.

30 years is a long time. It says something about the standards of rugby in NZ and England that a 2 point victory is so important.

Og

I don't give a crap, but I'm happy for TheEarl anyway.

Also, I just got home from a wedding and I'm feeling very... generous*...

I care.

Not that I understand any of the objects or rules of rugby, but from the depths of a sports fan’s heart. :D

Not for nothing have I spent the major portion of my adult life investing my time in the spectacle of the Toronto Maple Leaf’s failure to secure the Stanley Cup every passing year.

You need know no more of hockey than I do rugby. If you are truly a sports fan, you will understand why, after more than thirty-five years without the cup, I remain, steadfastly, a Maple Leaf fan.

When first I chose the Leaf’s as my team, the Stanley Cup was won quite regularly, and my only frustration arose over the growing evidence that I never would get laid.

How can I quit now, when my vices are versa? :(

...but we managed to nail ya at netball ;)

What was odd about the rugby game was that we couldn't score when your home team was two players down. But we managed to against your full team. Very odd that.

I won't mention the yellow cards if you won't. ;)

...Mind you, there was an awful lot of English injuries in the latter part of that second half eh. An awful lot.

wso :p

ps. Sorry I haven't been around, snowed under with editing etc at the moment. I'm sure you're managing without me just fine though.

Speaking of sports extremes, here's tonight's sports flash from the great American west. Wonder if anyone wants to try a little "bareback" riding? Your old goat roper, RF

Whitfield wins Finale, surpasses $2 million mark

LAS VEGAS, June 14, 2003 _ Seven-time world champion Fred Whitfield became only the third cowboy in Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) history to reach the $2 million mark in career earnings in front of 5,326 at the MGM Grand during the Pace Picante ProRodeo Tour Finale Saturday.
.
Whitfield of Hockley, Texas, won his second ProRodeo Tour Finale title with a time of 8.3 seconds in the final round. He entered the Finale needing to win $13,791 to reach the $2 million mark. Whitfield won the semifinal round in 7.5 seconds and collected $4,700. Winning the final round he won $10,575 to bring his three-day total to $18,213.

"This is another milestone for me," Whitfield said. "Actually, I wasn't aware until this afternoon that I had a shot at the $2 million. They told me I had to finish 1st or 2nd in the semis and then win the overall title, so I did. I am tickled to death, too, because there are only two others, Joe Beaver and Roy Cooper, who have done this. It's been a long process but his shows you how much they really achieved."

2002 Bareback Rookie of the Year Will Lowe of Canyon, Texas, tied the arena record with a 91 point ride on Kesler Rodeo's Sky Reach Dip. Lowe won $10,675 for his ride and collected his first-ever ProRodeo Tour Finale win. In three days of competition he picked up $17,038 in earnings.

Colorado steer wrestler Todd Suhn won the first major event of his career after turfing his steer in 3.8 seconds. Suhn of Brighton finished one-tenth of a second faster than Shawn Greenfield of Lakeview, Ore. Suhn won $11,750.

In the team roping Lance Brooks of Shandon, Calif., and Wayne Folmer of El Paso, Texas, took the title in 4.6 seconds winning their first Finale title. Brooks and Folmer were required to team up because their regular season partners did not qualify. They each earned $2,350 during the Finale.

Roughstock cowboy Jesse Bail defended his title in the saddle bronc riding with a 90-point ride aboard Burch Rodeo's Smokeless Blood Brother. Bail of Camp Crook, S.D., scored 88 points on Beutler & Sons Secret Agent Snuff to win the semifinal round. He won $15,177 over the weekend.

Texas barrel racer Kay Blandford added another win to here resume. Blandford of Sutherland Springs stopped the clock in 13.67 seconds. 2000 World Champion Kappy Allen finished second with a 13.70 second run.

Clint Craig, a 20-year-old bull rider from Mena, Ark., thrived under the bright Las Vegas spotlight. Craig rode Andrews' Bo Dippin for 93 points to win his first Finale title. He also won the semifinal round with a 92-point ride aboard Salt River Rodeo's Black Hawk Snuff. Craig won a total of $20,368 at the Finale.

When a man grows old and his balls go cold, and the end of his knob turns blue, when it's bent in the middle like a one string fiddle, he can tell a tale or two.

Now I know a man this way inclined and a tale that he did tell, it's about a whore from the frozen north by the name of Eskimo Nell.

Shall I carry on or will you Oggie.

Eskimo Nell

Dear Og and Pops,
That sounds much like "Dangerous Dan Magrew."

"The northern lights have seen strange sights,
But the strangest they ever knew,
Was in Dawson Hall the night they cut a ball,
Off of Dangerous Dan Magrew."

Literarily,

Yeppers

Sounds weirdly similar dear doesn't it, probably just the same tune.

Yours uptightly pops............

One of the sports commentators on the radio this morning said, "If we meet England in the semis or the final, we are going to be in trouble."

I agree with him. England has one hell of a good team. Sure dragged the enthusiasm back into the game for me. :)

Hey Og!
... a Morris Dance isn't as cool as a Haka.
It's all in the way they hold their tongues during the Haka ;)

Dangerous Dan Magrew? That sounds like a Red Dwarf quote.

For those who are confused it was Rimmer's cowboy name in Gunmen of the Apocalypse.
