Name: Shanna Williams
Age: 18

The first day of the last year in high school.

The morning could have started better for Shanna Williams. She had a bad hair day and her romantic life wasn't any better. The only thing that seemed to be good was the weather. The Californian sun would cheer her up if she let it. Being in a foul mood she wouldn't. Walking toward Polk High she dry angry tears from her cheeks. As she closed in to the school she decided that she have had enough trouble and heartbreak in her life. Fooling around with a woman almost twenty years her senior wasn't worth it.

"Fuck it..." Shanna shake her head and stop before the front entrance to the main building of the school. Taking a deep breath she adjust the black leather jacket over her white t-shirt and look down at her pale blue jeans and sneakers. Another year in school. Last year in a place she hate.

Shanna open the door and go inside. She is immediately met by the sight of students stressing on their way to lessons and the sounds of laughter and cheerful people have her mood getting even lower. Sighing she put her hands in her jeans pockets and hurry forward with her head down. Avoiding eye contact with anyone that could bully her because she was living in the wrong side of the city.

She was moving fast through the crowd and was hoping to reach her destination without any hassle. The luck wasn't with her as she tripped and fell forward. She yelped and tried to grab something to keep her balance. She got a hold on something solid but soft. The problem was that it didn't keep her from going to the floor. It went down with her and soon two pairs of arms and legs was tangled together. Shanna look down with big eyes and meet the gaze from the girl she accidentally dragged down with her.

"Fuck..." Shanna try to catch her breath as she was intimately connected with the girl.

"Sorry." She lamely say.

Name:
Kelly Archer
Age: 18
Measurements- 36-24-33
Hair/Eyes: Dark brunette – hazel
Intelligent, Cheerleading captain, Track & Field

Kelly was that typical girl next door that all the girls wanted to be best friends with; all the guys wanted a piece of or at least a pair of her panties to brag about. It had been that way since about eighth grade when she started getting curves and breasts.

She had been dating Dave Brooks for three years, and they were called the perfect pair by everyone, voted most likely to get married right out of high school or least after college. Dave was captain of the football team as well as the wrestling team; they both were in great shape and into sports and looks. If there was a popularity contest they would be two that could easily win hands down.

Her parents were the average parents of an only child, had a little clout in town, and threw the best parties on holidays or summer b-b-q. When her team won the championship they rented out a hall and threw a big bash for the kids, which mind you were only the popular ones and their dates. Weekend were spent poolside in their backyard, they never minded having the kids over, to them it was great having a house full.

The problem was with Kelly her self, she had a desire to expand and broaden her horizons, her parents wanted her to go to college, she knew she would go on a sports scholarship, yet to her that wasn’t what she really wanted. She wanted to travel, do the whole backpacking across Europe and see things before she settled into a college and spend however many years there hitting the books.

She was restless, and it was beginning to show in all areas of her life especially with Dave and he was picking up on it. That morning was the first day as a senior in high school, he was coming over to pick her up and take her, but she wanted to drive her self to school. He argued with her relentlessly until she gave in.

He pulled up into the driveway and rang the bell; Kelly heard the door open and then heard her mom give a holler that Dave was there. Overnight she had a change of heart about going with him; she grabbed her light jacket and headed out the front door with him, when they reached his car all hell broke loose when she told him she wanted to drive her self.

Dave tossed a fit acting like a child and jumped into his truck and headed out of the driveway squealing his tired and leaving her in a cloud of smoke. That was just one more reason she needed to do her own thing and break away yet nobody would understand. There was more to it all, she had feelings but she was realizing she wasn’t in love with him, loved him yes, but in love no.

Kelly sighed and got into her black 1964 mustang her dad had got her, it was fully restored and she loved driving it, she slipped in a CD and cranked the stereo up and left for school. When she got there she parked the car and looked over to him, she was hanging with his buddies and totally blowing her off, she didn’t give a rat’s ass. Kelly went into school where she met her small little group she hung with, the bell rang and she looked at her schedule, stopping at the bathroom first she knew she was going to be late and yet the way her morning had started she really didn’t give a fuck.

There were still kids hanging about pushing their way through the halls trying to get to their first class. Kelly pushed her way through like everyone else when out of now where and all of a sudden she felt something yank her back and all she could do was fall to the floor. By the time she realized what had happened she was starring into the biggest brown soft eyes she’s really ever taken notice of on another female.

“Fuck…sorry...” she said looking back to Kelly.

Kelly swallowed hard as she pulled her arm from the girls and then her legs and stood up looking down to the pretty brunette at her feet. Kelly offered her a hand waiting for her to take it to help her up. She smiled and brushed herself off with her other hand and laughed. “I got to agree with you…fuck was the only word I seen to know today, it hasn’t been my morning either…and it’s alright accidents happen.”

Her voice was soft as she spoke, the girl could easily tell she had no anger within her. “Accidents happen…”

The two girls untangle their limbs from each other and the pretty brunette get to her feet first. To Shanna's surprise the girl offer her a helping hand.

“I got to agree with you…fuck was the only word I seen to know today, it hasn’t been my morning either…and it’s alright accidents happen.” The girl say with a laugh to Shanna who was still lying on the floor staring up at her. “Accidents happen…” The girl say in a soft voice.

The lack of animosity in both words and composure surprise Shanna as she recognise her as Kelly Archer, cheer leading captain. Everyone knew of Kelly and Dave, her boyfriend. Both very popular and recognisable. They belonged to the crowd that Shanna early on discovered had little use for someone like her. She was living with a single mother that earned her living as a waitress. Shanna was pretty much left to do what she wanted as her mother worked almost every day, and more often than not very late.

"Eh...yeah." She accept Kelly's hand and with her help rise herself up. Standing once again she quickly let go and wipe the hand on her jeans. A feeling of awkwardness fill her and she swallow nervously. "Thank you." She offer as she try to determine if the cheerleader was just teasing her and faking the friendliness. Finding no sign of it, she grimace slightly and look down at her feet.

"Bye." She mumble and hurry past Kelly down the corridor toward the first class of the day. There was nothing like math to make a miserable day even worse in her world.

Kelly caught the look on the girls face when she offered her a hand up it seemed as if she was either surprised or thought maybe she could get an STD from her hand, she wasn’t sure which. Her hand gripped Kelly’s and she gave her a tug up and brought her to her feet before her.

Their eyes held to each others for a brief time, and then quickly he pulled her hand back and Kelly had no idea what the hell was wrong with this chick, and wasn’t really in the mood to deal with more bullshit for the day. She was being mind and she’s the one that gets the attitude she thought as the girl wiped her hand on her worn jeans.

She thanked Kelly and tossed her a bone saying bye like…’ugh’ Kelly thought this was going to be a shit day, she shook her head and thought about just ditching the whole damn day and hanging out anywhere but there a place she really didn’t care to be.

“Later” was all Kelly said as she blew out a breath and reached up running her fingers through her long hair and letting it fall down on both sides of her head before she headed up the hall.

Looking down her first class was trig and she wasn’t in the mood to deal with anything mathematical, she watched as the girl went out of sight and then turned on the balls of her heels and turned and walked towards the front door as she slung her back pack over her shoulder and headed out the same way she entered not to long ago.

Her feet felt like they didn’t even hit the front steps and she went down them and headed across the grass of the school without a care as to who saw her leaving, she headed to her car and unlocked the door tossing her back pack in it and just sat there with he head leaning back against the seat and her eyes closed.

Shanna suffer through two hours of math class and keep her face low over the math book the whole time. She can't focus on the numbers or anything really. Her thoughts are on Kelly Archer and of how the cheerleader seemed to have been hurt for a moment. Shanna could not say if it was her imagination or not.

When the class was over she hurry outside the room and pick up an apple from her bag and find a empty corner of the school yard where she can hang. Small groups of teenagers here and there and Shanna scan them with her eyes for Kelly. She watch Dave Brooks with his jock friends but there are no sign of his girlfriend.

Shanna take a bite from the apple and shake her head in confusion. She can't understand why she care if Kelly is there or not. Was it the friendliness she had offered or something else? Her mind drift toward Phyllis McArthur. The thirty six year old married woman Shanna had seen for the last two months. She had spent the night with Phyllis as George McArthur had been away on a business trip. The sex hadn't been as exciting as it used to and Shanna knew she had to break things off with Phyllis. She was fed up with the older woman's way of deciding everything in the relationship. Even the guilt Shanna felt was starting to tear at her self esteem.

She was not used to second guess her actions. She usually just did what she wanted and didn't care for the consequences. Shaking off these thoughts she lean back against the wall and finish eating up the apple.

Her thoughts return to Kelly. Where was she? Not that Shanna understand why she care that the girl was not there. They had never spoken before this morning but Shanna could not block out that soft voice and those eyes.

"I must be going nuts." She mutter to herself.

Kelly sat there till she heard the bell ring for first period to be over, she groaned out and decided that just return back on a tardy and suffer through the rest of her first day and just get it over with. Turning the key forth cut out the music that was playing throughout the Mustang and she sighed and was about to push the car door open but caught sight of Dave and the rest of the team as they walked out and stood over by their cars.

Leaning her head back again she watched him and how he flirted with the other girls on the cheerleading squad, she knew he was doing it for spite to piss her off knowing that Jackie would come back and try getting Kelly’s goat. The girl was a bitch, she came from a very well off to do family and she made sure everyone knew it.

Maybe it was time she made her break from him, she’s been feeling this urge elsewhere in her life and he wasn’t in the equations in her mind or in her heart. Her head turned and the girl that literally ran her over was walking across the school grounds. Kelly watched her, she watched how her hips moved from side to side with each step, and her breasts bounced upon her chest just enough to catch a person’s attention.

This wasn’t the first time a female had caught Kelly’s attention, in fact it had been happening since she was a young teen. It was daughter of her father’s coworker that first caught her eye. Kelly closed her eyes and could picture the dark haired young Italian girl and how she was so beautiful and Kelly found herself extremely attracted to her.

The memories of her first female kiss came back to her mind as she smiled and seemed to forget about her troubles with Dave as she felt like she could feel the girls lips pressed against her own and then the dreadful painful feeling of being caught and punished came to her mind as she lifted her head and looked at the girl.

There was something that was attracting to Kelly, it might be the banging body but she liked the edge the girl had, the roughness on the outside yet she knew the girl wasn’t all that much of a hard ass, she could tell that by the soft eyes she had and just like her they both seemed to be having a really bad first day.

Kelly looked at the clock on her stereo and knew she needed to get her ass in gear, she flung the door open to her Mustang and grabbed her back pack tossing it over her shoulder and locked and closed the car door behind her. Just as she stepped up on the curb she looked and watched as Dave came walking towards her, Kelly took in a deep breath and sighed.

“What the fuck is wrong with you today?” he asked as she could see his chest puff up and his voice was loud enough to draw attention to them.

“Dave don’t start on me, don’t come over and swear in my face and start drama so all your buddies can see your some big ass dick head jock. If you want to impress Jackie, do it some other way now leave me alone.” Kelly snapped.

He grabbed her arm; his fingers held a tight grip as she tried pulling away but he wouldn’t let up. “Don’t embarrass me in front of everyone Kelly, I swear to god you’ll pay for it later on.”

Kelly’s brow rose as she looked at him, “Fuck you Dave let me go now!” she yelled loudly and he left go giving her a look that could kill.

“You stupid bitch…I warned you.” He said and walked away, he headed back to his friends as she headed back towards the school doors again. Kelly didn’t look back, this wasn’t the first time he threatened her and it sure wasn’t the first time he laid a hand on her.

She pushed on the handle of the door and walked in, never looking back as she headed to the girls bathroom and pushed open the door hearing it slam against the wall as she did. She tossed her back pack sailing across the tile floor and slid down in the far corner at the end of the row of sinks and sat there trying to slow her breathing down, her hands trembled and it wasn’t from fear but anger.

If there was a time in her life where she wished she was anywhere but there or anyone but her self it was then and there. She drew her knees up to her chest, wrapped her arms around her legs and rested her forehead on her knees not giving a shit who came in, who seen her she just wanted to escape life.

Her hands smoothed over her legs, she could feel the back part of her skirt resting upon the tile floor giving anyone an eye shot of the red silk panties she was wearing and again what they saw was the last think on her mind at the moment.

Shanna watched Kelly disembark a mustang. She hadn't seen her sitting there. To be honest she had not thought to look. Shanna didn't know what car Kelly drove. She had never been interested in finding out really. Dave was walking toward his girlfriend and by the look on his face he was not pleased. True enough he immediately started to go at her. Shanna look on with interest as he grab her arm and they start to yell at each other. Narrowing her eyes Shanna look at the other people around. No reactions to the scene at all. She have just decided to go over to the couple to try and disarm the situation as it seemed that Dave was about to boil over. What she would do when she got there she had no idea. Dave was a strong guy. To her relief he was going back to his friends before she made her move.

Looking to Kelly she see the girl walking toward the building. Shanna ain't sure but the girl look a little defeated but was doing her best to not show it. It was a strange and unwelcome feeling to feel compassion for a cheerleader, but she did. With a sigh Shanna walk toward the building as well. She was sure that Kelly wouldn't want sympathy from someone like her but Shanna knew the feeling well of being manhandled and roughen up.

She open the door and look up and down the corridor. No sign of Kelly there. Shanna head toward the girls bathroom as it was the only place she could think of. She immediately spot Kelly as she enter the bathroom. The girl sit on the floor against the wall with her arms around her legs and lowered head. Shanna swallow deeply as she feel her body react to the sight of the red silk panties that show under Kelly's skirt. She feel her nipples harden inside her white lace bra. She had never felt so aroused in such a short time ever before and her breath caught in her throat. Knowing that Kelly must know she was there she went further in the bathroom.

"Sorry." She say in a soft voice that even surprise herself. She move closer to Kelly and finally slide down on the floor beside the other girl.

"You alright?" She ask s she look at her sideways.

Being so close to her Shanna's nostrils pick up the nice scent of Kelly's perfume. She close her hands in her knees to keep them from touching her neighbour. It was almost torturous to sit so close to her.

"Anything i can do?"

Kelly lifted her head just enough to see who was entering and praying it wasn’t any from the cheer squad or Dave; he had followed her in the bathroom before and knew he would do so again. A sigh of relief came out blowing like a soft warm breeze from her lips as she saw it wasn’t either.

Her head turned as she swallowed hard, everything was just going wrong in her life and she felt like it was spinning out of control. It started with her parents and then the snowball effect began, to Dave, the cheer squad, her wanting to be her own person…it felt endless.

It made Kelly actually smile a little seeing the same girl again. She apologized for something she had nothing to do with. “Thanks” she responded and turned her head watching her settle aside her and join her on the tile floor. They must have looked like Mutt and Jeff sitting there in the corner of all places the school bathroom.

Kelly lifted her head and rested it back against the wall and closed her eyes for a minute as she tried to figure out how in the hell to answer that question. She knew she was alright; she was a survivor, least that’s what she told her self.

Her head fell forth and she turned it looking to the girl, “every have one of those days when everything you do or say is wrong? Everything you touch turns to shit and you just want to get in the car and drive…and drive…and just never look back again?”

Before she had a chance to answer she spoke again, “I’m Kelly, felt that in should at least tell you my name since we seem to keep running into each other. I felt like you already had an impression of me this morning. I’m not as bad as you think…”

Looking into her eyes could easily draw one in, Kelly looked over her face, and she was really a beautiful girl. There was an attraction there and Kelly felt it inside as she rested her head back down on her knees again. “I don’t even wanna be here…I don’t’ want to be in school, or at home, or anywhere but driving and not looking back.”

“Every have one of those days when everything you do or say is wrong? Everything you touch turns to shit and you just want to get in the car and drive…and drive…and just never look back again?”

Shanna was just sitting in silence as she listen to Kelly.

“I’m Kelly, felt that in should at least tell you my name since we seem to keep running into each other. I felt like you already had an impression of me this morning. I’m not as bad as you think…”

Shanna meet Kelly's eyes with her own before Kelly lower Her head again.

“I don’t even wanna be here…I don’t’ want to be in school, or at home, or anywhere but driving and not looking back.”

Shanna keep her eyes on Kelly and is a little shocked. She would have thought that Kelly had everything she wanted.

"Every day." She admit to her own surprise. "I wouldn't hesitate to just leave all crap behind me." She turn her head and look forward. "You can do it you know. You have a car." I don't have that luxury Shanna think to herself. "Just get in your mustang and drive. No plans, only the road."

Shanna don't realise that she look dreamily at the wall. Just get away from it all. She suddenly turn to Kelly again.

"I am Shanna." She simply say.

Kelly sat there quietly listening to her speak up and talk to her, this time there wasn’t an edge in her voice, it was just two females sitting there and just blurting out whatever was on their minds.

“Pleasure to meet you Shanna, and seems were in the same boat. I guess everything just gets to ya and things build so far up you feel like your struggling to stay afloat, that’s kind of where I am at the moment.” Kelly nodded, “I think about it more and more and one day I’m just going to do it, leave here and not look back. I’m eighteen, an adult…I can empty the savings account I have and just pack my shit and go…no idea where but I guess that’s the point of it all no direction…no stress and no worries.”

The door opened again as Kelly looked up and watched Jackie, Maria and Angie walk through the lavatory door. She whispered to Shanna, “here we go this is one the reasons it sounds so good to just drop everything and go.”

Jackie stopped and the other two stopped behind her, Kelly almost laughed as she could see the image of their heads plowing right up Jackie’s ass. “What the hell is going on with you Kelly? First you blow us off on the first day of school, then you treat Dave like shit and now, now your sitting here hiding in the fucking bathroom with some…nobody.”

Kelly pushed up using the wall behind her; she took a step forth and got in her sister cheerleaders face. “You know what Jackie, you walk all over everyone, you treat people like shit and nobody wants to say anything we just take it. You can’t see that you’re not all that, so you have more money than Bill gates, it doesn’t make you a pretty girl in fact it makes you ugly.” Not giving her a chance to fire back Kelly ripped again, and it was feeling so damn good.

“I feel sorry for you, these girls talk about you behind your back, they use you and you can’t even see it…as far as Dave goes fuck, take him he’s all yours, I don’t give a shit and now as far as Shanna here, she has more personality in her big fucking toe than you have in your whole fake ass body. You’re a joke, you remind me of a girl going nowhere ever, relying on daddy’s money to get you through life. You need a weak ass boyfriend to walk all over and treat like shit…” before she had a chance to finish Jackie nudged her head to the other two and turned around and walked towards the door.

“Your done on the cheer squad, mark my words and as far as Dave goes, he’s been mine you dumb bitch, I’ve been fucking him for two months now.” She laughed and went to push on the door and Kelly took a run for her and yanked her hair in her fist and pulled her back and punched her in the face and walked back to Shanna offering her a hand, “Need a hand?”

Kelly knew she was going to be kicked off the cheer squad losing her spot as captain, she knew now about Dave and her so that put an end to that relationship and it made her feel great.

Looking to Shanna she spoke, “Listen I’m going to leave for the day, thanks a lot for being a friend something these people never knew how to be. I need to go and just munch out and gorge myself and just drive…I’d ask you to go but I don’t want to get you in trouble or anything…I’m going to be in enough…” she laughed and watched as the three girls left. “I bet there’s going to be a teacher here in less than five minutes.” Kelly reached over for her backpack and slung it over her shoulder and turned to head out of the bathroom and this time her smile went from ear tom ear and she felt so much weight lifted from her chest.

It felt surreal for Shanna to sit there on the bathroom floor and talking with Kelly in this manner. It was not like Shanna at all. She had always preferred her own company to that of the cheer leading crowd. She was just about to open her mouth to say something as the door open.

“here we go this is one the reasons it sounds so good to just drop everything and go.” Kelly whisper to her as Shanna spot three of the cheerleaders, Kelly's friends. Shanna lean back against the wall, looking totally relaxed. In truth she was far from that. If these girls would try something wicked, Shanna would be all over them in a heartbeat.

“What the hell is going on with you Kelly? First you blow us off on the first day of school, then you treat Dave like shit and now, now your sitting here hiding in the fucking bathroom with some…nobody.” One of the girls say, obviously the leader of the pack.

Shanna blush slightly at the nobody remark and is about to chew the girl a new hole. Kelly beat her to it though. “You know what Jackie, you walk all over everyone, you treat people like shit and nobody wants to say anything we just take it. You can’t see that you’re not all that, so you have more money than Bill gates, it doesn’t make you a pretty girl in fact it makes you ugly.” Kelly had gone up and stood very close to the adversary.

You need a weak ass boyfriend to walk all over and treat like shit…”

Jackie look to her friends and then move toward the door. “Your done on the cheer squad, mark my words and as far as Dave goes, he’s been mine you dumb bitch, I’ve been fucking him for two months now.” When Jackie said that with a laugh Kelly was over her like a banshee.

When the quick one sided fight was over Kelly offer Shanna her hand, which Shanna accept. “Listen I’m going to leave for the day, thanks a lot for being a friend something these people never knew how to be. I need to go and just munch out and gorge myself and just drive…I’d ask you to go but I don’t want to get you in trouble or anything…I’m going to be in enough…” Kelly say with a laugh. “I bet there’s going to be a teacher here in less than five minutes.”

"Yeah." Shanna look at the back of her new friend as she head out the door. She only take a second to decide. An easy decision as Kelly was damn more interesting than to stay in school. It was not the first time Shanna ditched classes if something more intriguing showed up.

She catch up with Kelly on the way to the parking lot.

"So where are we heading?" She ask as she walk beside Kelly. When the other girl look at her Shanna smile. The first genuine smile from her in quite a while.

Kelly pushed the lavatory door open and watched as the trio went down the hall towards the office; Kelly rolled her eyes and shook her head. She was always the girl who had the good grades, the girl to try to be perfect in everyone’s eyes but she wasn’t happy inside. She hadn’t been for a long time now and she wasn’t exactly sure why.

Anger had set in, she hated everyone and everything around her, she felt like she was losing grip with her life and if it wasn’t her parents it was Dave, if not him it was another trying to control her and push her around, or make her do something she just didn’t want to. There really wasn’t one person in her life that either didn’t expect something from her or want something.

Kelly heard quick sounding footsteps, sneakers hitting the cement and turned around and saw Shanna coming up behind her, Kelly laughed and smiled back to her as she stopped and waited up for her to catch up and once she did she turned on the heels of her shoes and began walking to her car.

"So where are we heading?" Shanna asked as Kelly laughed.

“Honestly I have no clue but lunch is one me…pick the place” Kelly said as she unlocked the car and told her to get in. She stuck the key in the ignition and handed her the book of CDs, “take your pick…”

Kelly backed out and before she pulled off school grounds she yanked her sweater off and had on a tight fitting red tank top. She tossed her sweater in the back seat and then reached up and undid her hair letting it cascade down her shoulders and back.

“So pick the place for lunch….any place your heart desires Shanna.” Kelly said as she pulled out of the school lot and headed down the road towards anywhere, she didn’t care she felt great just letting it all behind her.

Out of nowhere Kelly looked over and winked, “you should smile more often, makes your eyes light up…” she turned and looked ahead of her and caught the red light….”so ya decide where we’re having lunch?”

“You should smile more often, makes your eyes light up… so ya decide where we’re having lunch?”

Shanna smile back to Kelly. For once she felt free and and she was admiring Kelly's tight red tank top that hugged her curves so deliciously. Not that Shanna thought that was the reason for Kelly to take off the sweater.

"I'm in the mood for a burger." She drum her fingers on her jeans clad thighs. "What do you think of Hut Burgers." She mention the small burger bar that's very popular among the young clientele. Shanna had a very simple taste when it came to food. "We can decide to eat there or it is as easy to bring it."

Shanna feel her cell phone vibrate in her jeans pocket and with a grimace she fish up the small thing. Without looking who the caller are on the display she put the phone to her ear. "Shanna."

"When are you coming to see me?" The abrupt voice of Phyllis threaten to destroy the good feeling Shanna have been feeling. Shanna feel the blood drain from her face and she look at Kelly. She would hate for her new friend to know that she are in to girls, or in this case a older woman.

"Never." Shanna take a deep breath. "It is over, should have told you this morning but didn't know how." That actually felt good. Maybe because she was now sure she was doing the right thing. Looking at Kelly she realise that being friend with her made her feel better than being a lover to Phyllis. She can hear her ex lover scream at her in the phone. "Fuck you to." She calmly say and click of the phone and put it back in the pocket. Exhaling she glances at Kelly. She are quite sure that Kelly heard it was a woman on the other side of the line.

"Sorry about that." She mumble and look forward, out the window.

"I'm in the mood for a burger. What do you think of Hut Burgers? We can decide to eat there or it is as easy to bring it." She looked over to Shanna as she came to the light, pondering running the yellow she decided to stop. Kelly nodded in agreement she knew the place and had stopped there a couple times after away games for a quick bite with the team and squad.

“Not a problem, sounds like a great idea, I don’t eat many burgers but damn could use one now. I know this place by the lake we can go and chill at, grab it to go and just relax. We used to grab some beer and a few bottles and head there on a Friday night, build a bon fire, skinny dip and just have fun.”

Just as Kelly stopped speaking and they headed up the highway she looked over and noticed how realized she was around Shanna and visa versa. Kelly hadn’t a need to pretend she was having a good time around her because she was, it was nothing like how she needed to be around the squad and the associates they hung around with, associates was the appropriate word, because none were really friends.

Kelly glanced over when she took the call, she couldn’t but help hear the one sided conversation, and then she heard another woman on the other end scream at her and she felt bad for her new friend. Kelly was trying to put it all together. She could hear the loud voice of the female on the other end but couldn’t make out the words she was saying until the cursing part.

If that was her mother Kelly assumed they didn’t have the greatest relationship and if by chance it was perhaps a lover, she sounded older and it sounded as if the relationship ended. Kelly didn’t want to be nosy, she wasn’t there to judge her new friend and it really didn’t matter to her which side of the fence she was on.

"Sorry about that." Shanna said in a soft mumbled voice.

“No need, we’re having shit luck today, both of us…we need to change that around somehow.” Kelly said as she pulled into the burger place and turned off the ‘stang’. “Lets grab and go, won’t take long to get there food should still be warm.”

Kelly got out and waited for Shanna, walking in she ordered a burger with the works, curly fries and a large vanilla shake and then stepped aside and left Shanna order as she dug out the cash for the bill.

Shanna wait while Kelly order. She still feel embarrassed about the earlier call, but is thankful for Kelly's discretion. When it's her time to order she ask for a burger with everything and extra onion, curly fries and a large banana shake.

After they pay for their orders Shanna follow Kelly back to her car and get seated once again. The paper bag in her hand smell great and she can not control the rumble that is herd from her belly.

"Only ate an apple today." She defend herself with a grin. She smile as Kelly start the engine and drive off again. "I really need to get better food habits." She look at Kelly.

"You said you used to skinny dip? Been a long time since i been swimming in open water."

She lean back in the seat and smile. Been a long time since she felt so free. As if she could do anything.

Kelly paid up the tab and they waited for their food, she looked her over and smiled, she had a feeling that they would get along great. Two girls from different worlds, yet so much alike in many ways, it was nice. They say opposites attract and with them it was true. She didn’t care where Shanna came from she liked that she was herself and there was no act.

Back in the car she began to pull out and on the highway again as she heard Shanna’s stomach growl and they laughed. “You do need to eat better that’s not enough to start the day by, but I’m not one to give advice when I’m just as bad.”

"You said you used to skinny dip? Been a long time since I been swimming in open water." Shanna replied as Kelly nodded and laughed.

“Yes we skinny dip up here as soon as the water gets warm till it gets to cold. You seen a little surprised by the fact I would do that.” She laughed again and turned off the highway to a dirt road that lead back to a grassy area with a few picnic tables, an old stone fire ring and a floating dock.

Kelly parked the car and got out, she kicked off her shoes and socks and tossed them on the back floorboard and grabbed the drinks leaving Shanna with the bag. She placed the drinks on the hood and kicked off her shoes and took her socks off tossing them on the back floorboard of the car before closing the door.

Opening the trunk she grabbed the blanket and then the drinks and from there they walked down by the water, she sat the drinks down and tossed the blanket out. “I’m not into sitting in bird shit” she said and sat on the blanket and grabbed the drinks placing her at her side and handing Shanna’s over to her. “God I’m starving…so, gonna tell me about yourself? I know nothing but your name really, oh and your day turned to shit like mine.”

Shanna place the bag of food between them on the blanket before sitting down next to Kelly.

"About me?" She take off her sneakers and socks and drop them to the ground. What should she tell her new friend? Kelly seem to be pretty tolerant about many things but would she look different at her, Shanna, if she told her how she really was. Maybe it was the time to find out. There was rumours about her in school and they would reach Kelly sooner or later anyway. Especially now that Jackie and the crew was pissed at Kelly.

"I live with mom who's an waitress. I rarely see her though. She work a lot. Leaving me with plenty free time." She smile to Kelly. "I hate school and have thought of dropping out. With only one year left though, that would be stupid."

She fish up her burger from the bag and unwrap the paper. Taking a big bite she grin and chew it down. "That was great. I needed that."

"How my day turned to shit. It's embarrassing really. I was in a bad relationship. Now it is over though. Just to bad you where there to hear it." She say with a glance at Kelly.

"Over and done with." She mumble and start to eat the burger with new energy.

"I live with mom who's a waitress. I rarely see her though. She works a lot leaving me with plenty free time. I hate school and have thought of dropping out. With only one year left though, that would be stupid." She said as Kelly listened to her speak, she reached over and took her food from the bag and nodded.

"How my day turned to shit. It's embarrassing really. I was in a bad relationship. Now it is over though. Just too bad you where there to hear it, Over and done with.” She said ending the conversation on her part.

Kelly took a few bites of the burger and picked at the fries, she took everything in and pondered over it. “Your mom works a hard job, which I know. I can remember going to eat with the squad and for spite they would stiff the waitress her tip, used to piss me off. I would always go back and leave one, knowing she was there to do a job just like no other and deserved that money…and she’s on her feet everyday makes for a long day.”

She took another bite and looked over the lake; the water seemed to just stand still. “I always liked school, I guess in a way I’m a nerdish type. I like to learn but after I hit a certain grade everything changed for me, I got involved with cheering, and Dave and then pressure from every area and it made me hate it. I do agree it really would be stupid to quit now in your senior year, though I can relate I really wouldn’t mind just dropping out and doing the backpack thing. I think my parents would have heart attacks if I did.”

Kelly wrapped up half her burger and munched her fries taking a sip of her shake now and then, “You heard what happened with Dave and I, so I guess I don’t need to explain there. It was coming, I told one person about how he treated me behind closed doors and she spread it about and needless to say I was made to regret that decision…but I feel free now, not sure I will later but for now I feel like I don’t have a care in the world, especially being here I love it here.”

She laid back looking up to the sky, her knees drawn up and bent as her skirt pooled nearly all the way up around her waist. “My parents are hard workers, started with nothing and built from scratch but like your mom they were never around. I’m not from a wealthy family but not poverty either. I know hard work gets you where you wanna go in life and I think being from a structured family with semi strict parents makes me want to just spread my wings and fly, be careless and just enjoy life for a while.”

Kelly turned her head looking over to Shanna, “care to talk about your relationship? You don’t have to but it does help.”
