Friends [rant]

I feel alienated. Am I the only one who actually put both Friends and Grey's Anatomy to my favorite list?

But I do agree that Friends does have some....controversial lines. Especially when they make fun of Carol and Susan and their homosexuality.

Thank God! I thought I was the only one that likes that guilty pleasure.

If you also like the Dog Whisperer I just might fall in love.
ssshhhhh...
hes wicked awesome. yes, i enjoy the Dog Whisperer too.

Man vs. Wild.
nearly anything DIY or Flip This House or Medical Incredible.

Friends = mindless senseless humor with no redeeming factors....

Sienfeld = Same as above with older more exaggerated characters..... Most of the humor was lost in the stupidity...

Saw the dog whisperer yesterday for the first time.......its patently a programme about 're-programming' the owners/handlers NOT the poor dogs. Interesting though.

We have a couple of similar programmes on UK TV.

I LOVE DIY programmes.....there are so many on UK TV its quite scary. And house flipping (developing/resale) are amazing. Why are the people who buy the properties so darn stupid? Even I, a non-developer, can tell its going to take them way longer to do what they want, and usually cost a lot more. And then they go and ask too much and can't sell it. Sheesh.

Medical ones......no thanks. Not for me, not reality ones anywhere. I love Grey's Anatomy, not particularly for the medical part, but because of the interactio/intertwining of the characters and their lives.

Bored with ER (being re-run over here - AGAIN!)

HOUSE!
how could i have forgotten that one?!
Hugh Laurie is fantastic. love his sarcasm and wit.

I'm a television omnivore. Except reality stuff, I guess.

Current favorites: House, The Dresden Files, Scrubs, My Name is Earl, How I Met Your Mother, CSI (Las Vegas, though I watch the other ones for (NY, Gary Sinise) and (Miami - Emily Procter and making fun of David Caruso almost like it's a drinking game "Mock the creepy pedophile lookin' dude whenever on screen)

And Boston Legal.

Besotted NCIS, CSI, Law and Order (Criminal Intent), Cold Case, Without a Trace, fan here. Can't get Crossing Jordan in UK. Bummer. Love House, West Wing (only just discovered it, never watched it first time round. Love it.), and Grey's Anatomy.

Ya know I used to watch certain shows religiously (yeah I liked Friends and Sienfeld). But all that kinda stopped about a year ago. In fact in the last 10 months I may have watched possibly 5 hours of TV and most of that was parts of Desperate Houswifes.

I don't miss any of it.

Boston Legal I can only take in small doses....James T. Kirk pisses me off big time.

I thought every one watched CSI Miami, JUST to take the piss out of David Caruso? The world's worst and most wooden actor.

Shows that started out well and then totally lost me:

Lost.
Gray's Anatomy. (although the episode written by Marti Noxon this season made me very happy)

Desperate Housewives?
*silent scream*.........Aaarrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I HATE that programme. Unfortunately, another of the wife's favourites.

I LOVE him as Denny Crane. Although when Craig Bierko joined the cast and then left in the same season, I almost cried.

It's the scenes with David Caruso and kids that just make my skin crawl. "Get away. Run. Don't look at the sunglasses! Don't look!"

I've been trying to catch Man vs. Wild - I hear it's extreme.

I've seen a few and the guy is crazy..... He gets dropped off with a basic survival pack and the clothes on his back....

I love James T. Kirk - actor, author, singer - can poke fun at himself.

CSI LV is my preferred. But CSI Miami is actually more fun. I love to hate Caruso too. Snatches off sunglasses, head turns and tilts, stern look. But he actually did a very good acting job in Proof of Life. He was sort of a hyper soldier of fortune. I was surprised.

Would watch a movie with Caruso and Keanou Reeves.

Someone told me the strategy's the same no matter where he gets dropped off - go downhill, find a stream, follow the stream and find a road, follow the road...of course he has to improvise when he's dropped off a couple of miles offshore.

I think I'll go check my tv guide right now.

Havn't seen MXC. I've seen some of those Japanese game shows. They're insane, like extreme fraternity hazing.

MXC is in a class all it's own. Watch it. :D

It's a Japanese game show with dubbed lines, but definitely not the original ones just translated.

(ever hear of a Japanese game show host named Vic? )

THAT was the best Seinfeld episode.

:D

I was never much of a Friend's fan, though I have to admit I fell in love with Joey's brainless but sexy "How YOU doin'?"

But I couldn't keep up with which character was dating which character, who was pregnant and who was getting married. Again.

There were only six people. It was like a porn movie - do you think the writers spent their time debating which person to put with which - the plot be damned, let's go for maximum bang for your buck?

I don't have much TV time these days. We let the kids have remote control so except for the occasional CSI or Jon Stewart or News, my TV expertise is related to Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon.

. . . This tirade speaks to two essential components. The writing (groan) and the apparent successful reflection of american 'culture'. (not limited to the US but this is what set me off)

Fat jokes. The fat suit that Monica wears really riles me, especially the dancing sequences. The lines they gave to Ross about fat girls. With no hint of empathy whatsoever about the plight of self-image and insecurity that many people go through in these situations, just a method of writing poor script for cheap laughs.

Successful rich white people (with the very occasional token other race/class). Aspirational you may say, but aspirational only to other rich white people. Of course you can run for President, but that's only because those in power know you can't.

Characters. Where they're not hateful they're insipid. Where they're not two-dimensional they're stereotypical . . .

I honestly don't think I've watched a mainstream sitcom in 40 years ( ), and I generally fight back against anti-American rants, but based on what you say here I've decided to emigrate to France.

(Oh wait a minute - they have that Jerry Lewis thing. The species is doomed. Let's just surrender to the cockroaches and be done with it.)
