Fresh, Hot Conspiracy Theory

What states had Diabold machines? Did any of them go to Kerry?

IIRC, about half of the touch-screen machines used in Clark County Nevada are made by Diebold. Clark County voted for Kerry, but not by enough to override the rest of Nevada.

Of course our touch-screen machines have a paper trail -- including the Diebold models.

Florida bought the same machines, despite months of controversy about the lack of a paper trail.

It's particularly odd that the Florida vote wasn't close, because this time - for the first time in my memory - the Cuban-American community was vocally divided over GWB. With their solid support, he won Miami-Dade County by a smaller margin in 2000 than he did without it this time.

Or maybe he didn't win at all. Maybe this was brother Jeb's last big favor for the family as governor of Florida. There's no way to know.

The next thing had better be the Democratic party taking a long hard look at itself. They don't even have the comfort of saying they won the majority of the popular vote this time.

If it wasn't clear after the 2000 election it should be blatantly clear now, they have lost touch with middle america. It's getting to the point where a democrat has trouble winning a democratic primary in the old south. They can't beg, borrow or pander enough to sway voters in the West and midwest and have lost ground with hispanics who were supposed to be their new core in the old southeast.

They aren't left enough for true liberals, don't connect with or inspire young voters, who essentially provide your liberal voice in most countries, and have allowed the GOP to corner the market on Patriotism, Family values and faith.

They should have realized this after Gore couldn't even carry his own home state. You guys rag on GWB for "stay the course', but he has nothing on the ingrained inertia within the upper levels of the Democratic party.

Organisms adapt or die, to me the Democratic party is starting to look an awful lot like a stegosaurus, with apologies to Calvin.

I think that a democrat should come out and start emphasizing Values, and start talking about what specifically those values are. Becuase although liberals don't share exactly the same values as Conservative Christians, we do have a lot of good solid strong values.

I've christened what I believe as 'PBS Values' - the kind of values you'll find on Mr. Rogers and Seseme street. Kindness, fairness, compasion, tollerance, comunity service, character, co-operation, family, teamwork, ect.

These probably won't work for a lot of people who's values are 'god hate's all who don't follow his ways' or 'cooperation is for sissies; god loves football and war' but it at least hilights the positives rather than leaving a gaping whole open for conservatives to attack as a total lack any values whatsoever.

Yeah, obviously the democratic party needs to be able to get throough to at least a few of those red states in the middle. We can't win without em. What do Willie do when he was running? He must have done something right:)

Willie was a poor boy from Arkansas who made good. He had that Southern accent and that "I feel your pain" way of speaking that resonated with the rural voters in all those small towns he personally visited. Plus, the economy was in trouble when he ran the first time and was rolling along nicely by his second term. It was his 'moral values' that did him in, though, what with the bimbo eruptions and the Monica factor.
