Free Rice and a Chance to Strut Your Stuff

Oh, this is way too addicting. I made it to 50 once. :) (And then quickly plummeted back to 42...) :(

Splendiferous. :) 1060!

That only hit a vocabulary level of 43, however. I seemed to get an unusually large number of easier words early on. I think that that vocabulary score might be the better measure of actual proficiency.

I was taken down by "alcazar" (I knew it was either "rock" or "fortress" but couldn't remember which), but made it past "coleoptera."

I made it to 1200 grains before I stopped.

I faltered the most on vocab level 38 words, occasionally on level 37.

:D

See, I knew you were lots smarter than me.
I guessed on lots of them, and got lucky because I knew the root :D

That's what helped me, too. Words like 'antipode.'

Who knew having a degree in English would come in handy? :p

I hit level 43 once, but seemed to hang out at 41-42 for the most part. I think knowing some medical terminology helped me. Latin roots and all that.

Hmm. I never got above level 38.

Level 44 so far, but I will openly admit that there were a few educated guesses in there. Thank god for obvious roots.

Hit 42 whithout a fault, but then I seem to get everything wrong.

Can't get higher than 50 without going backwards. East Indian grass varietals? I ask you!

This is definitely one of those games that favours a British private education: Greek, Latin and Old English all very much necessary...

Curse you dark horse! I have other things to do! :D

43 then down and back up.

Rice for charity, but the game is the fun bit. :) I got taken down at 250 by "flagiate" or something like it. I'll have another go later, but I'm sure that some of you can top that easily.

I acquired 380 grains, but got stuck on *gulp* admissible

I picked Permissive, the choices were:

Permissive
Unfavourable
Allowable
Neutral

It was tricky dammit. Permissive and allowable are similar, yeah, that's it. lol

I ended on 550

Amazing how many words you know when they're presented in a multiple choice format. :)

The multiple choice thing does make it easier, I doubt if I could have actually defined a lot of the words that I worked out by comparing the suggestions. Couldn't get past 49, even though they started repeating occasionally.

My first failed word was after 440. Maybe that's why subsequent questions never went above level 38. *shrug*

I just reached level 46. shillelagh = cudgel tripped me up. I don't know what either is. :D

Big stick for hitting people with.

46 is my high-water mark too; I seem to be levelling out at roughly 43-44. Has anyone beaten 50 yet?
