When did this happen?

I wanted to send a card to a friend, so I logged on to two sites I like to use.

I found a card I liked and got set to personalize it when I noticed something new.
The card I selected was for paid members only.

Strange.
This had always been a free site.
When did it change?

Not wanting to pay, I went to my second site.
Same story.

It seems the previously free greeting card sites have split themselves. There is still a small selection of free cards, but the majority of them are now available to members only.

And it's only $11.95 a year.

Looking at it objectively, it's really not a bad deal.
But still.

It stings to have it sprung on you out of nowhere.

And the timing of the change certainly hasn't gone unnoticed.

Merry Christmas, Everyone.

THIS might be the only card you're getting from me this year......

Really? Damn, I've used those sites in the past, too!

Try going to searchalot.com and checking out their greeting card site list. I haven' t been there in awhile, but it was a few columns long so there must be a few free sites still out there.

I vaguely remember reading a few months ago that Blue Mountain Arts was bought out by American Greetings. The spokesman for AG said that their sites were going to offer subscription services, but that there'd be a significant number of free cards still available.

Guess he was wrong :(

Obviously their idea of significant and our idea are two different things........read ' all the crappy cards are free!

I was talking with a few friends of mine about the Internet, and the future of the whole thing. One of them was one of the big "The Internet should be free" advocates, which prompted this line from me:

"Sure, the Internet's going to be free, but all the cool stuff will cost plenty!".

I'm sad to see this coming true in so many places. <sigh>

Blue Mountain

It is so sad to see this happening, especially at this time of year!! Talk about Xmas grinches!

Greeting cards - Life.....they both come with a price. That's what I'm learning.

I didn't realize that Blue Mountain had changed until this thread. American Greetings kind of hit me in the face when I went to send a card through their site several days ago. Another site I've used in the past, Egreetings.com, has also decided to charge for sending cards. I guess they need it for the upkeep or something. It's a business just the same as going to a card store in our outside lives. Probably more will follow suit.

Please, have a truly wonderful day and make sure you smile whenever you can.

I can't remember the name of it exactly, but there was a site called like kinkycards.com or something that was free. I assume it still is since they have many other side ventures besides the greeting cards.

that was a cool site but i have not been their in a while.

My prediction. . .

the internet will be compared to the cigarette companies one day--they sucked us in when it was free, we became adicted, and now that we're hooked, they'll start raising the prices. Hear about the new music "services" launched by the record companies to replace Napster?

I understand completely.. I was trying to find online annoucments for Roo But they all wanted a little fee ... And all the ones i went to wanted freaking money...

Yep, they have us hooked into the free stuff and now it will become a user pay world.

NSW... go to the link I posted.. and scroll down.. find the link that says "Baby Nursery Card Shoppe" She has 5 or 6 sections of "new baby" cards.

That's why I spend most of my time at sites that offer information and other services for free. I support them as fully as I"m able, financially, with volunteer stuff, or any other way I can.

Yahoo provides free e-cards for users and I think non-users. They are usually really nice. They just take a little longer to load
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the link. Used it to find an online card earlier today and send it out. I'd recommend it now.

Freakygurls link looks pretty good too. Finally, I can start sending internet cards to people again without having to pay. Being the cheap-skate I am, and all. *cough*
