I do enjoy the aesthetics of the ropes as well as the feel.

The flexibility with my practice definitely helps with some of the binds. I can't speak much to the learning curve because I was into yoga before we experimented with shibari. Where I am in my practice shows up in the binds; we have an elaborate one in mind that requires my forearms to touch with my hands clasped behind me, I'm currently working on my shoulder opening for this. I honestly dont think that one is achievable for me...but we have similar ones that we'll attempt.

For the safety aspect its a lot of communication. I let him know if I need a break, if the ropes feel too tight, how much longer I'm able to hold a posture. On his end he's watching the color of my skin, checking to see if he can fit his fingers between the rope and my skin.
