Senior officers of State round here are so Very discrete about their funding. . . .

You probably mean discreet, HP, not discrete.

Discreet means they keep them quiet.

Discrete means they keep them separate.

There is a register of the financial interests of Members of Parliament but very few people actually look at it - which what MPs prefer to happen.

Now, why didn't we think of that? We're supposed to be a parliamentary government modeled on the British system.

You modelled it on our 18th Century version which assumed all elected representatives were voted for only by those with money and landed estates, and the candidates were monied people themselves.

You haven't changed.

We have - in theory - but in practice our representatives are still elected by money and have significant money themselves. :D

Same here. When are the oligarchs of the West going to be sanctioned?

the Banks are Made of Marble

I'll always remember the best banker I ever dealt with explaining what his job really amounted to: Playing poker with other people's money and never worrying too much about loosing a hand every so often.

Probably the most honest banker I ever knew.

Unfortunately the map is of Oak Island and it has been dug and dug and dug...

The person who drew the map was a practical joker.

After all I've read over the years about the infamous Oak Island treasure search, I really expect it to be found one day...and it will be a small box containing another treasure map.

Those are some groaners for sure, but I think this one wins the "Oh hell, no!" award:

Who is Santa's favorite singer? Elf-is Presley!

:caning:

Here we go; the Groan-fest:-

What is the best Christmas present in the world?
A broken drum – you just can’t beat it!
