I once made the mistake of sending my apologies to an Annual General Meeting.

In my absence they made me responsible for cycling activities for the whole of SE England.

Why?

They had a 50/50 split on the other two possible people. One was a fanatical distance rider who thought nothing of riding 100 miles before lunch; the other was a 'potterer' who thought five miles from the nearest station was too far to cycle.

Why me?

I was the only member of the committee who had never been seen on a bicycle. Therefore I wouldn't be in either category.
