Reminds me of what I told an older cousin that regularly berates me for "not being supportive of the president" ...

Perhaps when you people that make excuses for everything he does and accept he is running the country as some kind of weird Monty Python combination of Animal House and Animal Farm, then my attitude might change.

I think he took it as an insult. :D

"Animal Farmhouse" - now there's a story we need to write...Frat Boys who like beer grope the farmers' daughters because "Frat Boys are More Equal than Others"

I just want Norman Lear to live long enough to come out with one last sitcom where Archie Bunker has been elected President, Maude is running the House of Representatives, and George Jefferson is still driving him nuts.

Oh wait! That's coming in January! :)

Life imitating art! :)

I have a brand new DVD player sitting on a shelf in one of the wardrobes. I bought it just as other digital solutions were becoming viable. Oh well, at least they were as cheap as chips by then.

I have a combo DVD/VCR for playing the DVDs and VHSs we have. (A turntable, too, not to mention a cassette tape deck!!)

I have two wind-up gramophones. Recently I was outbid on an Edison cylinder player.

I have this little gem...a 1965 Koronette fireplace stereo complete with 8 band tuner, slide-out turntable, eight track, and hidden bar. Stumbled on it in a thrift store 5 years ago. They had no clue what they had their hands on since it was in perfect condition and had priced it at $75. Needless to say, that's probably the fastest my wallet has ever come out of my pocket. ;)

I never quite got the hang of an 8-track player.
Never seemed to be able to get the music I wanted, somehow.
And as for a DVD, Tio, it's the only way to record off the TV.

8-tracks were a pain sometimes simply because there was no "fast forward" available with them. You had to click through the four tracks to find the one that had the song you wanted and then many times had to sit through two songs you didn't care about to get to the one you did. Cassettes gave you the FF and reverse options but you still had to do a "search & find" mission to get anywhere close to the beginning of the song.

I am still a VHS addict mainly because you can find players (and even player-recorders) for $10 and $20 in thrift stores that might be 30 years old, but were high dollar and high quality machines in the day and still function great. Plus, as people empty out their old stuff, there is a huge amount of classic & vintage TV shows and movies on VHS tapes that aren't available on DVD and can be picked up for under a dollar.

I agree with you about VHS tapes, but I had to change over to DVD so I could get a new terrestrial TV service, a year or two ago. So the tapes had to go.
I got a strange look on the salesman's face when I asked for a machine that did both so I could transfer a load of stuff I had on tape to disk, but my little Toshiba thingy is working very well.
Trying to get a replacement for it is proving rather tricky, though.

God bless your little Toshiba thingy, HP :)

Thank you;
I do wish the timing was better; and, of course, fewer bloody adverts (I really do not need to record them, do I?).

I wish that I could say that I am immune to the commercials. But I'm not. They just annoy me. Grrr.

The traditional Ad has become so bloody annoying, they've invented the "info-mercial" !

Sometimes the best commercials are ones that aren't even recognized as a commercial.

Half the planet had never considered buying a bag of Reese's Pieces until ET started gobbling them up in the movie. Then suddenly they were flying off the shelves.

M&M's never lived down passing up the producers offering them first chance at their candy being the co-star.

Eastman Kodak sued Paul Simon over the song "Kodachrome." The judge had to point out to them how much free advertising it had given them.

Did Kodak drop the claim ?
Or the artist suggest they pay him for his doing the advert ?

I used to prefer Ilford B&W or Fuji colour films.

For B&W, Kodak Tri-X 400 ASA. :)

Kodak lost the suit, HP.

A few years ago I had quite a discussion about the characteristics of film vs digital with the photographer who took the iconic shot of Marilyn and the Wind. We agreed that digital was ok, but it would likely never come with enough pixels to match the molecular level of film.

Well, firstly it IS getting better (there's a very nice (commercial) sensor of 20M and more).
But what is not mentioned is HOW the film was processed [as well as the type]. Getting it right will find very small grain; getting it wrong and it's bad !
Agfa made some seriously nice 25ASA films with the finest grain that even my ham-fisted work could not ruin.

The mind is truly a strange thing. Even though I haven't been in a darkroom in almost 45 years, all this talk of film and speeds has triggered the memory of the very real smell of D-76 developer sloshing around in a confined area.

I guess it's kind of like the first time your nostrils are attacked by liver & onions or the unique aroma of a pig farm...just something the brain files away to be able to forever torture you with.
