A good English Bitter; cellar cool, with a decent Ham sandwich, on a warm summer afternoon.
Happiness writ large!

Shame about the steady demise of country pubs: wooden seats on a lawn, pints on a rickety table, birds pecking at crumbs and . . . oh, that's enough

Occasionally, one can find such a Pub.
And not part of some amorphous 'chain' !

I loved the Pubs in Ireland, out in the Gaeltacht.
Dark, dingy, rickety, with the finest stouts and porters I've ever tasted, and a raft of colorful locals who'd jaw you down about anything and everything...
