Anyone know of a good technique to capture individual frames from video? I have a few pics I wanna grab from my newest videos....

have you tried taking screen captures the normal way yet? You should try that before you go looking for any software.... sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. It depends on the file type

Just hitting "print screen"? Yeah I've tried that, but I didn't know it depended on file type, maybe it will work with this file. I'd still appreciate software ;)

Both IrfanView from www.irfanview.com and PaintshopPro from www.jasc.com have a screen capture function. Either will capture frames from most digital movie file formats

PowerDVD has a frame capture function for DVDs that works better than a screen capture -- I don't know about other DVD players.

I'm downloading PSP 8, thanks for the advice. I'll let you know if it works. IRfanview, I've looked at it, but it seemed kinda poorly interfaced or put together, not easy enough to dive in and figure things out on your own.

If you're willing to pay for it, a program called SnatchIt is about 25 bucks and works well. I'm assuming you are Windows-based.

Not willing to pay for it ;) But thanks. I'm using PSP 8 and I can capture off the video, and save it in PSP8 format and view it, but when I save it as a jpg, its just black (the way it looks when you screenshot the video using prntscrn. Help? What format do I need to get the image and still be able to post it here?

Ok, so the image saves in BMP, but when I save it,the one frame is bigger than the video itself (1 megabyte bigger in fact). GRRR what the hell am I sposed to do?

Is this an .avi or mpeg file? Try the video player "bsplayer" (I think its www.bsplayer.org). It can do screen/frame captures from video files.

Ok, I'll try that too. I can get screen captures now, but they are huge (bigger than the entire video until I resize in photoshop). ANd I can't change the format to anything other than BMP or it goes black (cuz its video I guess). Any other suggestions?

I think BS player worked :D I'll let you know in a min.

Have you tried saving it as a .bmp file, opening it up in photoshop, and THEN 'trading' it over to a .jpg file?

I do that all the time if .bmp files are the only way I can get something to look right originally.

Right-click on the bitmap image and open a new document in Photoshop (the new document will automatically be correctly sized to fit the copied image) and paste the image. Then, either use the Save for Web or Save as options under the File menu and choose jpeg as the file type.
