I was just turned on to this browser thing called Hemmingway that helps you edit your writing. It's intended for students and folk writing in academia, but it can be used for fiction too. You copy/paste your excerpt into the browser and it highlights things like overly complex sentences, passive voice, adverbs, etc. It also tells you what grade level you're writing at, based on the current US standards.

That, and the dog jumped into my lap and broke the "o" key. So now sometimes when I'm trying I won't hit it, because it's just a nubbin and not an actual key. I noticed it but decided to leave it. For the giggles.
