BRMB: £15,000 fine

Birmingham radio station BRMB was today fined £15,000 after a competition that left three contestants with severe ice burns and permanent scars.

The Capital-owned station challenged participants in its "Coolest Seats in Town" contest to sit on blocks of solid carbon dioxide - which has a temperature of -78C - for as long as they could, in order to win tickets for a music festival.

Four of the contestants were taken to hospital suffering from severe frostbite from the dry ice.

...

Some people didn't pay attention in their science classes.

confused: Absolutely. Some people are so stupid - to sit on dry ice - I ask you! Didn't they realise it wasn't frozen water.

In America they would be awarded a million dollars for their absolute stupidy, well less 33.333% plus costs some greedy low life lawyer would take first...

far from the truth. They would've had to have sign a waiver to participate in the first place.

A local radio station had a similar contest for *NSYNC tickets.

They used regular ice, though. The winner was the person who got their block to completely melt the fastest.

Damn, those Brits are intense.

You must not be a lawyer...I could get a great settlement out of this...the waiver means nothing, I just got to get past summary judgement...I am golden...

I might be able to understand the idiocy if there were huge sums of money involved, but for tickets to a musical festival?????
