A little unconventional but, there are parents who can have kids or decide not to in favour of fosterin and adopting and such folks get stuck with all kind of kids.
So, white couple meet a coloured son. Young sweet polite and all that he was for everyone to see but he was also determined to do anything to get what he wants. And in this case it was his "mother". So a young coloured man using his culture and the fact that his new mother finds it hard to navigate this new role...mhe uses it show to her how he is the man she chose in more ways than one, for her to be his.

Adopting brings to mind under 18-year-olds.
But, as parents we often 'adopt' our children's best friends. Especially those who have questionable home lives. One even lived with us for a year. A couple still call my wife and I, Mom and Dad, twenty years later and are now parents themselves.
