A friend of a friend taught English in saudi Arabia. He said a non-Arabic speaker could live there 20 years and only barely have a handle on the language. He was probably exagerrating, but you do have to study your ass off to become fluent.

but i remember the first word I learned....oishi (or oyishi)

It's just easier to learn it when you are like 4 or so y/o... Then you can get the phonics of the language..

I would be able to speak other languages like Cambodian, but I can't carry the accent on bit.. Lol. My chinese is pretty much the same..
