I just heard that Derek provided tickets to the Game for a Mother and her Daughter. The Father was the pilot of the plane that crashed in the WTC.

Yeah, that's great- but he still gets on my nerves. Everyone treats him like the Golden Child. Providing tickets for 2 people to a game really isn't a big feat, either. I've gotten tickets that have said they were provided by Paul O'Neill. I like so many of the other Yankees much better- Williams, Knoblauch, Matrinez, Pettite, O'Neill....

LOVE him. I was pretty upset when Mattingly retired, but he made me think twice.

No one can replace Mattingly- he was such a good guy, not to mention a fantastic player. Martinez does pretty well though. :)

BTW-I don't want to glout,

:p

YEAH!!!!! I saw a game this year. Also, I went to a Yankees store and have a picture of Mickey Mantle.

He's the shortstop for the Yankees. Moast women love him b/c they think he's gorgeous, but I honestly have to say that if he wasn't famous and I saw him walking down the street, I wouldn't give him a second look. He's on the right in this photo...

ahh...thanks...let me put this into perspective then

a professional ball player (making what? shall we just say millions a year?) gives away a couple of tickets that he didn't have to pay for

My thoughts exactly....

Actually, there is more to the story than just a few free tickets. One of the girls wrote Jeter a long letter telling him about what happened to her dad. He read the letter, then called her up and invited the girls and their mom to tonight's game as his special guests. They watched batting practice and met several players. They even came up to the booth and chatted on the air with John Sterling and Michael Kay, the Yankees' radio announcers. Then, when the game was over, the girls were brought onto the field so they could high-five the players as they came back to the dugout. Finally, manager Joe Torre gave them the lineup card as a souvenir of the game.

Ok, ok- I grudgingly admit that it was nice of him; but it doesn't mean I have to like him any better (grumble, grumble)...

As someone else here once said, I'm fucking impressed

How generous of him. He makes $396,976,751.18 a year and coughs up two tickets he didn't even pay for.

My hero.

oh sure, after i make my comment then you all begin expanding on the story...lol...serves me right for dipping into a subject in which i hadn't any real interest, nor the slightest prior knowledge

i too acknowledge that the gesture has more meaning than a couple of tickets...sounds like there's a human in there after all

and now i'll leave this thread forever...gotta know when to cut your losses and run

sigh

Sorry! I was sick the day they taught reading comprehension.
